Bournemouth Council Chambers, housed within the Grade II Listed Civic Centre, stands as a proud symbol of the town’s civic and architectural legacy. Since the early 20th century, this impressive building has served as the administrative heart of Bournemouth, symbolising the rich local history, community spirit and witnessing the town’s evolution from seaside resort to vibrant modern borough.

Set prominently opposite Bournemouth Gardens and the Bournemouth War Memorial, and neighbouring St. Andrew’s Church, Richmond Hill, the Civic Centre occupies a key position within the town’s historic core. Its Neo-Georgian design, characterised by symmetrical façades, red brickwork and classical stone detailing, reflects the civic optimism of the interwar period and the architectural trends of municipal Britain at the time.

Given its intricate layout, ornate council chamber and wealth of heritage features, completing a measured building survey by way of terrestrial laser scanning provided an efficient and reliable method of data acquisition. Our team was able to capture the building’s complex geometry with millimetre precision, demonstrating how modern surveying technology can safeguard historic fabric, support conservation planning and ensure the continued legacy of Bournemouth’s civic architecture for future generations.

We were appointed to carry out a detailed survey of Blandford Fashion Museum in Dorset, a unique heritage building celebrated for its historic interiors and nationally important costume collections. The survey was commissioned to support future conservation, exhibition planning and building management, requiring a careful balance of precision and sensitivity.

Working within a museum setting demands a considered approach. Using high-precision terrestrial laser scanning technology, our team captured the building’s structure with exceptional accuracy while minimising disruption to the fabric of the space. From principal exhibition rooms to secondary circulation areas, the survey recorded the building in full, preserving its character down to the finest detail.

Complex internal layouts, historic finishes and varied floor levels were all documented accurately, giving the client a reliable digital record of the museum as it exists today.

Following the laser scanning works, we completed a comprehensive internal photographic survey to fully document the museum’s arrangement and architectural features. Particular care was taken to record display spaces, structural elements and historic details that contribute to the building’s significance. High-resolution imagery provides a clear visual reference to complement the measured data, supporting future conservation decisions and spatial planning within the museum.

We were commissioned to complete a detailed survey of this beautiful Grade II listed property, a traditional rural farmstead surrounded by the rolling Dorset countryside and a mix of historic agricultural terrain. The survey scope included the main dwelling, adjacent outbuilding and a substantial parcel of land.

We undertook a comprehensive Measured Building Survey and Topographic Survey to support upcoming planning and design work for the conservation and refurbishment of the historic asset.

Using our Trimble high-precision terrestrial laser scanning and GNSS systems in combination with one of our DJI drone platforms, we captured the full extent of the site efficiently and safely.
This hybrid approach allowed us to document everything from heritage stone structures and more modern constructions to the irregular terrain all with exceptional accuracy.

With the measured building and topographic surveys complete, we moved inside the various buildings to gather an extensive internal photographic record of the structural and spatial arrangements of each building.

Some of the high-roofed barns included elevated beams, trusses and inaccessible connections, perfect use cases for our smallest DJI drone. Its stable indoor flight capabilities allowed us to capture high-quality images of elevated structural details that would otherwise require scaffolding or mechanical access.

This approach provided a full visual record of the existing internal conditions, supporting both structural assessment and design-stage decision making.

This fascinating project showcased our ability to combine advanced integrated digital surveying techniques with practical, onsite fieldwork across a complex rural environment. We’re proud to support the continued evolution, redevelopment and sustainable reuse of Dorset’s agricultural heritage.

We were recently commissioned to complete a Measured Building Survey of the Zig Zag Building in Glastonbury, a striking Bauhaus-inspired former industrial structure.

Celebrated for its bold form and layered history, the building has in recent years evolved into a centre for sustainable living, exhibitions, workshops and community engagement, further weaving itself into the iconic town’s rich cultural fabric.

The building’s unconventional geometry, split levels and non-linear layout demand a high degree of precision. Its complex physical condition presented particular challenges for redevelopment planning. To address this, we employed high-precision terrestrial laser scanning to capture the structure in its entirety, recording both internal and external detail with incredible accuracy.

Following the scanning works, we undertook a comprehensive internal photographic survey to document the existing layout and key features.

Together, the measured survey data and high-resolution imagery form a valuable reference for future design development, conservation and heritage assessment.

To complement the internal work, we also recorded the external elevations and roof structure. Where appropriate, drone technology was used to safely capture high-level imagery of the roof coverings and upper façades, allowing for close inspection without the need for intrusive access methods.

This project demonstrates our experience in surveying complex and characterful historic buildings, where precision and care are essential. We are proud to contribute to the documentation and ongoing stewardship of the Zig Zag Building, helping to preserve a distinctive strand within Glastonbury’s architectural story.

To round off the project, we took to the skies to capture high-resolution exterior and roof imagery.

Our drone survey provided a detailed visual record of the existing roof fabric, highlighting key areas for future maintenance and remediation while also supporting the drafting of the Measured Building Survey.

This aerial data - combined with our ground and internal records - delivers a complete and accurate picture of this remarkable historic building.

With the laser scanning and topographic survey complete, we moved indoors to capture a full photographic record of the building’s internal spaces.

Using the smallest DJI drone in our fleet, we were able to access elevated and intricate features that a handheld camera simply couldn't reach. Its upward-facing camera capability made documenting complex ceiling structures quick, safe and incredibly precise.

The result? A comprehensive visual record of the church’s historic interior, ready for design and heritage specialists.
