A nice Grade II listed restoration we’ve been working on recently.
We originally went to replace a couple of rotten plinth blocks at the bottom of the surround, but once we opened it up it became clear the rot went much further than expected.
The upper pediment was still in good condition, so rather than replacing everything we left all the sound original timber in place and rebuilt only what needed doing.
All the mouldings were taken from the original timberwork, custom cutters were made to match, and the new pilasters and mouldings have all been manufactured in Accoya, complete with solid oak Yorkshire roses.
A lot of hours have gone into this one, but it’s been great to bring it back to life while keeping it as true to the original design as possible.
Just final prep and paint to go now.
