Studio Bloc was founded by Philip Handley in 2014. After graduating from the University of Manchester with a BA Hons in Architecture, Philip then achieved a first class honours in his Masters in Architecture at the University of Liverpool, where he was awarded the Norwest Holst
Prize for Practice Management and Law, and the T.S. Philip went on to gain a broad range of experience working in renowned architecture practices around the world. While working at the internationally acclaimed Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) under architect Rem Koolhaas in Rotterdam, Philip worked on the design of large scale projects, including the Lab City Centrale Supélec, Paris and Bibliothèque Alexis de Tocqueville in Caen, France. More recently, Philip worked at an award-winning architects practice in Singapore, Ministry of Design, where he gained experience on a range of international projects, including boutique hotels, modern residential, retail and office spaces across Asia. Philip returned home to the North Shropshire countryside to establish Studio Bloc, where he now designs high quality residential and commercial projects. He creates buildings that are thoughtfully considered, and designed for the people within them and for the environment around them. With his passion for conservation and the preservation of the natural environment, combined with a love of design, Philip is able to draw on the unique qualities of a site and translate a brief into something coherent and sensitive. Philip has combined his time in the studio with getting his hands dirty, working on a number of small scale construction projects, including building his own home. His on site experience has provided him with a deep understanding of construction methods and a love of working with natural materials. Our Approach
We offer our services nationally, working in both urban and rural areas, with residential clients, developers, contractors and property professionals. Using BIM software allows us to create 3D models of your new build home, house extension or barn conversion. By using BIM (Building Information Modelling) we can also prototype your building project before construction. We provide architectural and building design services that range from house plans and planning permission for eco friendly green homes, to listed building consent, building regulation approval and construction drawings, through to interior and landscape design for luxury contemporary houses.
