This customer was worried that due to the age of the existing fuse box’s that she might need a Rewire.

After testing the existing wiring I recommended a board upgrade only, as the installation returned satisfactory readings.

The smaller board controls the heating and hot water in the property.

New consumer units fitted with RCBO’s and SPD bringing this installation up to the latest wiring regulations.

This allows for expansion of the installation at a later date.

Fire alarms

I’ve recently had an influx of fire alarm work

I often get asked “Do you do fire alarms?” And my answer is “Yes!”.

I can :-

Install both domestic and commercial systems
Service and issue certification
Fault find
Commission/recommission
Improve and upgrade existing systems
Install remote monitoring systems

Be careful when drilling walls.

Called to this property after the owner reported getting an electric shock and tripping breaker when having a shower.

They had unwittingly drilled through the live cable of the lighting circuit which ran up the wall they’d secured the shower curtain pole to. Tested with a meter and found 236v!!! coming through the pole.

Pole removed, cable made safe and new fixings installed avoiding cables.

This highlights the importance of a thorough test and inspection, using qualified and experienced electrician’s.

Customer reported intermittent issues with lighting.

I found multiple neutrals that were terminated poorly.

10+ RCBO’s had gone faulty. Contacted manufacturer and they confirmed my suspicions that it’s more than likely happened from poor installation by the installer.

A live cable in a 3 phase panel with bare ends even worse it was live when the panel was isolated.

New RCBO’s installed, poor connections rectified and cable made safe and labelled.

Lighting upgrade for this property internally and externally.

Downlights installed in soffit with recessed motion sensor.

Light fittings replaced in bedrooms and living room.

Downlights in hall and kitchen.

New wall mounted lights to the rear garden. The homeowner didn’t want to damage the render so we used conduit to disguise the cables.

Made good any damage caused ready for the decorator.

Finished off with a test and certificate issued.

We enjoyed this one.

Total Motor Care

Some fault finding at Total Motor Care to get their outside lights back up and running. Found, rectified and tidied up the plastic conduit.

Also added some extra sockets and commando socket to their workshop.

A wired Intruder alarm installation. This customer wanted every area of his house protected due to a recent spate of break ins in the area with PIRs throughout, door contacts and vibration detection on windows. For extra peace of mind I installed a dialler which will inform the customer if the alarm is triggered.

Although smart alarms are easy to install and cost efficient they tend to use WiFi. In the event you lose WiFi due to network issues or damage to your vulnerable phone line what happens to the alarm system?

Finding a creative solution to this customer’s problem.

This was a converted office into a flat the customer wanted to be able to switch these 2 lights independently from 3 different positions along the corridor. Only one problem they didn’t want any damage to walls or ceilings.

Using a wireless switching system, I managed to conceal the modules behind the pendants causing no damage to the walls or ceilings.
