Pricking out Broad Beans… 🤭

My inner child smiles at the word but ‘Pricking out' your seedlings is a term that means transplanting them.

The reason you have to do this is to help your plant move on from 'seed' stage to 'growing on' stage, where it will require a bigger pot or cell.

Do you grow your own vegetables?

🍂 🎃 OCTOBER GARDEN JOBS 🍂 🎃

October usually sees the first frost blackening the foliage of tender plants, such as dahlias. The autumn leaves also begin to colour up and eventually fall. It’s time to dismantle the summer displays and prepare your garden for the winter ahead. It shouldn’t be all doom and gloom because it’s also time to plant those spring bulbs and vegetables - yum!

HOW TO SCARIFY YOUR LAWN - LIKE A PROFESSIONAL

Lawn scarification is the process used to remove excessive amounts of thatch from a lawn and is an important part of lawn care and maintenance. Scarifying is done using a mechanical lawn scarifier which has adjustable rotating steel blades to cut the thatch out without destroying the healthy grass. In some cases, they can even pe*****te the soil below the surface to improve the aeration and the quality of the grassroots...

DO YOU LOVE THE SIGNS OF SPRING? 🌼

Now is the best time to plant your spring-flowering bulbs such as daffodils, crocus and hyacinths.

Plant these by the end of September to brighten up those short days of early spring.

Here are some simple steps you should follow when planting your bulbs:

🌱 Dig a hole wide and deep enough for your bulbs. Plant most bulbs two to three times their depth.
🌱 Place the bulbs in the hole with their 'nose', or shoot, facing upwards.
🌱 Replace the soil and gently firm it with the back of a rake. Avoid treading on the soil as this can damage the bulb.
🌱 If the ground is moist, watering is not critical. Otherwise water straight after planting.

Struggling for inspiration? Head over and see which ones you like on the RHS website: https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/types/bulbs

🌼 🍃 🌱 INTRODUCTION 🌱 🍃 🌼

As a qualified and experienced gardener with over twenty-four years of hands-on experience, I can create and maintain green spaces that are safe and secure areas for children to play and for adults to socialise with their friends.

My experience is vast having worked on a range of projects including local council and housing associations, private and public sector grounds maintenance, as well as community gardens and private residences.

This wide range of experience allows me to bring a wealth of knowledge gained from working in different environments and making them accessible to all who use them.

I first started by cutting my Grandad Frank's lawns when I was ten years old, I used to do this after school or at weekends, cutting his front and back lawns for £5 and breaking the nylon cord and strimmer head (nothing changes all these years later) then when I left high school in the summer of 2004 I joined my family business [Makin Gardens based in St Helens] as Temporary Worker during the school holidays, since then have gained contractual work through word of mouth and maintained green spaces throughout Cheshire, Lancashire, Merseyside and Greater Manchester for a variety of clients.

I am qualified by the RHS (Royal Horticultural Society); RHS Level 2 Certificate in Practical Horticulture, Myerscough College and RHS Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Plant Growth and Development, HC College.

I also hold City & Guilds Level 2 Principles of Safe Handling and Application of Pesticides (PA1) and City & Guilds Level 2 Award in the Safe Application of Pesticides using Pedestrian Hand Held Equipment (PA6a) which are industry standards for the application of pesticides.

We are insured for your peace of mind and provide all relevant documentation upon commencement of services.
