180 five-star reviews. Countless conversations. Hundreds of people trained.

When I started OHSS, I wanted to deliver health and safety training that people would actually enjoy and remember.

Looking back over the last six months, the reviews tell me we’re achieving exactly that.

Some of the comments that really stand out include:

⭐ “Great course, made easy by a fantastic tutor.”
⭐ “Amazing training, would highly recommend.”
⭐ “Everything was really well explained.”
⭐ “Brian made the IOSH training genuinely enjoyable.”
⭐ “Plenty of stories and anecdotes to keep things interesting and informative.”
⭐ “Fantastic delivery, clear and concise presentation.”
⭐ “Engaging trainer.”
⭐ “Would happily attend another course.”

These aren’t just nice comments. They tell me that people are leaving with knowledge they can actually use back in the workplace, and that’s always been the goal.

Today, OHSS has now reached 180 Google reviews with an overall 5.0-star rating, something I’m incredibly proud of. Every review represents someone who trusted me or OHSS with their training, and I never take that for granted.

To every individual learner, company, organisation and returning client who has supported OHSS over the years – thank you. Your recommendations, repeat bookings and feedback are what allow a small family-run business to continue doing what it loves.

Here’s to helping even more people stay safe, stay compliant and, hopefully, proving that health and safety training doesn’t have to be boring.

Thank you for your continued support.

As another training year comes to a close before the summer break, I’ve been reflecting on what has been a busy and rewarding year.

For me, the working year runs from September through to July. Over the years, experience has taught me that training tends to slow during the summer months as businesses, managers and employees take well-earned holidays. Rather than fight against it, I’ve learned to embrace it, recharge and come back ready for another busy year.

Since September 2025, I’ve had the privilege of training hundreds of people across a wide range of health and safety subjects. From IOSH courses and First Aid to Fire Safety, Risk Assessment, Mental Health and many others, every course has been an opportunity to meet great people, share knowledge and hopefully make workplaces that little bit safer.

A huge thank you to every individual and organisation that has chosen OHSS. Whether you’ve used us once or continue to come back year after year, your support genuinely means a great deal. Being self-employed isn’t always easy. There are no guarantees, and there are days when you question yourself more than you’d like to admit.

This year has brought its own challenges. I’ve spent much of it working through constant pain with a torn meniscus while waiting for surgery. There have been days where I’ve struggled physically and mentally, but I’ve kept going because that’s what running your own business often means. You turn up, you deliver your best and you keep moving forward.

Now it’s time for something I’ve been looking forward to for months. Six weeks in Spain with my family. Sun, cold beer, good food, time to relax and hopefully give my knee a bit of a rest before the next chapter begins.

None of this would be possible without Lisa Claydon and our kids.
Their support, patience and encouragement mean everything, especially during the tougher times.

Thank you again to everyone who has supported OHSS this year. Have a fantastic summer, stay safe, and I’ll see many of you again soon.

September is already looking busy, with bookings already confirmed and the diary filling up nicely. I’m looking forward to getting back to doing what I enjoy most: helping people go home safe at the end of every working day.

See you all in September.

Every Fire Risk Assessment tells a story.

Behind ceilings, inside service risers, above suspended ceilings and within plant rooms, we regularly uncover breaches in compartmentation, unsealed service penetrations and fire stopping defects that could allow fire and smoke to spread rapidly throughout a building.

These issues are often hidden from view but can have a significant impact on life safety and the effectiveness of a building's fire protection measures.

At OHSS, our Fire Risk Assessments go beyond a tick box exercise. We take the time to identify real risks, explain our findings clearly and provide practical recommendations to help you improve fire safety and comply with your legal duties under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

Whether you manage a care home, residential block, office, warehouse, school or commercial premises, we can help you understand your fire risks and prioritise improvements.

Another fantastic First Aid at Work course delivered this week, with learners getting hands on experience in CPR, AED use, recovery position, casualty assessment and dealing with workplace emergencies.

At OHSS, we believe first aid training should be practical, engaging and memorable. No death by PowerPoint, just real world scenarios, hands on practice and the confidence to act when it matters most.

From learning how to use an AED to managing an unconscious casualty, these skills can make all the difference in those critical first few minutes before emergency services arrive.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended and got fully involved throughout the course. Your enthusiasm and willingness to learn helps create safer workplaces and communities.

Three days. Three care homes. More than 600 miles on the road.

This week took me from Swansea to Bournemouth and then on to Worthing, carrying out Fire Risk Assessments in residential care settings during some of the hottest days of the year so far.

Long days, motorway miles, traffic queues, warm hotel rooms and plenty of water, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. Every assessment is different, every building presents its own challenges, and every visit is an opportunity to help improve the safety of residents, staff and visitors.

Whilst many spend their week behind a desk, I get to travel the country, meet dedicated teams and help make a real difference where it matters most.

Time to get the reports finished and prepare for next week’s adventures.

Over the last few weeks, OHSS has had the privilege of delivering health & safety support and training across some fantastic venues and major operational sites.

From elite football stadiums recognised across the world, to large scale logistics and distribution environments running around the clock, it’s been a busy and rewarding period for the business.

As a small independent company based in Widnes, it’s something I’m incredibly proud of.

OHSS may not be the biggest company in the industry, but experience, knowledge, reliability and genuine engagement with clients continue to open doors and build strong working relationships.

With over 20 years experience in health & safety and thousands of learners trained over the years, the continued support from clients old and new means a huge amount.

The diary is now heavily booked right through until past September this year, which is another massive milestone for OHSS Occupational Health & Safety Solutions.

Thank you to everyone who continues to trust OHSS with their training, consultancy and safety support requirements.

Built on hard work, reputation and word of mouth. 💙❤️

Great to be back with the CleanEvent team again, always a pleasure (and no casualties this time, which is how we like it 👀)

Love hearing feedback like this. The whole point of First Aid training isn’t just ticking a box, it’s giving people the confidence to actually step in when it matters… whether that’s at work, at home, or when someone’s overcooked the BBQ at the weekend.

Massive credit to your team, engaged, up for it, and not afraid to get stuck in (even when it involves a bit of bandaging practice on each other)

Looking forward to the next one 👊
