Very pleased to be able to give something back to Standish Cricket Club after they helped me when I was starting up 15 years ago. The new clubhouse is looking amazing and the ground even better with the advertising boards around the boundary.

🐝 WASP NEST – IN A LOFT 🐝

This was a substantial wasp nest tucked away in the eaves of a loft, in a particularly awkward position to access safely, and the second one in a week that another pest controller hasn’t managed to do.

In this video you can see the three-stage approach I use to deal with a nest like this:

1️⃣ Initial knockdown with insecticidal foam
The first stage is applying a specialist wasp nest foam directly onto and around the nest. This gives a rapid knockdown and helps deal with active wasps around the treatment area, reducing the risk of wasps flying towards me while I’m working in the confined loft space.

2️⃣ Physically breaking up the nest
Once the initial activity has been reduced, I use a long-reach pole to break up and disrupt the nest from a safer distance. This exposes the internal structure of the nest and areas that would otherwise be difficult to reach.

3️⃣ Residual insecticidal powder treatment
Finally, the area is treated with an appropriate insecticidal powder. Unlike the initial knockdown treatment, the powder provides a much longer residual effect, remaining in the treated area after I’ve left and helping control returning wasps that weren’t present during the initial treatment.

It’s a good example of why treating a wasp nest isn’t always simply a case of spraying something at the entrance and walking away — particularly when the nest is large, concealed and located in a difficult area such as a loft.

🐝 WASP NEST REMOVAL – RIGHT IN THE EAVES! 🐝

This one was tucked away in a loft, right down in the eaves of the roof just behind the gutter line — not the easiest place to get to!

With a nest in an awkward position like this, simply spraying the entrance isn’t always enough, so this one got a three-stage treatment:

💨 First, the nest was treated thoroughly with a wasp nest destroyer foam insecticide.

💥 Once the treatment had taken effect, I used a long pole from a safe distance to physically break up and disrupt the nest.

🌫️ Finally, the area was treated with an insecticidal powder to deal with any remaining or returning wasps and make sure the job was finished properly.

The video gives you a good look at just how well hidden these nests can be in a roof space!

⚠️ Wasp nests can become extremely defensive when disturbed, so don’t attempt to knock down or break up an active nest yourself.

Another wasp nest taken care of this time for a long term customer up in Whelly in his loft / roofline.

Can you spot it right at the back behind the dark insulation?

Most pest controllers won’t venture up there because it’s hard, tight and dangerous. I get up and do a full removal if possible and a mop up pesticide treatment too.

Wasps nest seem to be going mad this year, it must be all the dry weather. Here is another one that we’ve done today that was particularly photogenic. You can even see the small initial nest just to the top left above the much larger nest that we removed.

Unfortunately, this customer fell foul to Google producing results from outside of the search area of which they live. A Pest Controller from the other side of Manchester came all the way to treat this nest last week and didn’t even climb a ladder, just treated it from outside with a dust stick (like a fishing rod) whereas I climbed into the loft, searched high and low, and made a point of physically and chemically destroying the nest making the roofline and the loft safe.

If you have any wasp or pest related problems, do not hesitate to give us a call 07920001980

Swarm collection and removal is best done in the evening or night when they’re all gathered together. Unfortunately this one needs to be moved into a hive, left over night and gathered up 24hrs later as it’s a prime swarm and located in such a way that getting it all in one go proved harder that we’d like.

🛏️ Bed Bugs – Small Pest, Big Problem!

Today’s job involved treating a property for Bed Bugs, and these photos show a classic harbourage area – the hidden spaces where Bed Bugs like to live and breed. In this case, they were tucked away in the folds and seams of a corner couch, emerging mainly at night to feed before returning to their hiding place.

Bed Bugs feed exclusively on blood, usually while we’re asleep, and a single female can lay hundreds of eggs during her lifetime. They don’t fly or jump, but they’re excellent hitchhikers, often spreading by travelling on luggage, clothing, second-hand furniture or even moving between neighbouring properties.

If you wake up with unexplained bites or notice small dark spotting around beds or furniture, it’s worth investigating sooner rather than later. Early detection makes treatment far more effective and helps prevent an infestation from becoming established.

If you think you may have Bed Bugs, don’t panic – get in touch for professional advice and treatment before the problem spreads.
