Another safe relocation carried out today 🐝

These White-Tailed Tree Bees had made themselves at home inside a bird box, but unfortunately the location was causing issues for the customer. Rather than destroy the colony, the bird box was carefully removed and relocated to a much safer area where the bees can continue to thrive without causing a nuisance.

Not every bee problem needs extermination — sometimes a safe relocation is the best outcome for both the customer and the bees 👍

Today’s job in Standish turned into a very interesting one 🐝

We were initially called in to remove a colony of Bees thought to be nesting in a roof/ceiling space ahead of planned building work. Once the ceiling started coming down, it quickly became apparent that the activity wasn’t actually in the roof void itself, but within the fascia and soffit area.

After carefully removing part of the soffit, we first located an old wasps nest that had long since been abandoned. However, nature had reused the space, and inside was now an active colony of White-Tailed Tree Bees.

Normally, where possible, we always prefer to leave bees undisturbed as they are an important part of our ecosystem. Unfortunately, due to the upcoming building works and the risk posed to contractors working directly in the area, the colony had to be safely removed.

It’s a good reminder that old nests, cavities and roof spaces can often become home to other wildlife long after the original occupants have gone.

If you’re hearing buzzing in soffits, loft spaces or rooflines, especially during the warmer months, it’s always worth getting it checked properly before any work begins.

I’ve officially signed up for an Ultra White Collar Boxing event 🥊

On the 18th of July I’ll be stepping into the ring at the Brick Stadium in Wigan (formerly the JJB /DW Stadium) after eight weeks of training at Majestic Gym in Pemberton, where I’ll be preparing to fight someone of similar height, weight and ability — so it should make for a fair contest!

Over the next couple of months I’ll be pushing myself physically and mentally, all whilst raising money for two brilliant causes close to my heart:
• Cancer Research UK
• Andys Man Club

🎟 Tickets go on sale from 2pm this Friday (22nd May)

Ticket prices:
• £50 per seat on a 10-person VIP table
• £25 standing room only

The VIP tables are VERY limited and expected to sell out quickly, so if you KNOW FOR DEFINITE that you’d like a table seat, please message me ASAP. I’ll organise the tables upfront and you can pay me afterwards, but I need confirmed numbers before ordering.

We also have an opportunity for up to 4 shirt sponsors on my fight vest at £50 per sponsor. Your name or business logo will appear on my vest on fight night, and every penny raised goes directly to the charities. Or if there’s any big businesses out there looking to write off some money for a good cause please get in touch if they’re interested in ‘charity matched funding’.

It would genuinely mean a lot to have friends, family and familiar faces there on the night supporting me — whether that’s buying a ticket, sponsoring the vest, donating to the charities, or simply following the journey over the next eight weeks.

One thing we often see when cleaning gutters, fascias and soffits is staining like this caused by months or years of dirt, algae and water run-off being left untreated.

Once these black streaks and marks become embedded, they can be extremely time-consuming and difficult to remove completely — especially on lighter coloured UPVC. In some cases, permanent discolouration can occur.

Regular cleaning not only keeps your property looking smart, but can also help prolong the life of the plastics and prevent costly replacement work later on.

A simple maintenance clean every couple of years is far easier (and cheaper) than trying to restore heavily stained fascias and soffits afterwards.

We’ve seen a massive increase in callouts for rats and mice recently, and every infestation can be completely different.

To identify where rodents are coming from, where they’re travelling, and how best to deal with the problem, we often have to use a range of different techniques and monitoring methods.

You may have seen some of the recent video footage we’ve posted recently to identify the problem. Sometimes identifying the problem is the first stage then we have to find the roots that they are using, by means of a UV-sensitive tracking powder.

This harmless powder allows us to monitor rodent activity by showing the routes they’re using, which can help us locate entry points, harbourage areas, or even nesting sites that would otherwise go unnoticed.

This video shows a circle of that Powder had been put down around some monitoring bait which is all been consumed, but it also shows the different directions the rodents had taken when moving away from the bait site.

Rodents can squeeze through incredibly small gaps, so signs of activity are not always as obvious as people think.
