A few weeks ago we held a meeting to discuss safety culture and what it means in practice.

Safety is DXI's number one priority. While it's supported by policies and procedures, it's ultimately shaped by people and their everyday behaviours. It's the manager who stops work when something doesn't look right, or the operative who feels confident to challenge an unsafe act.

A positive safety culture exists when we genuinely care about each other's wellbeing and feel comfortable speaking up without fear of criticism or blame.

We read the poem "I Chose to Look the Other Way" by Don Merrell. The poem explores a difficult subject, but is a powerful reminder of our personal responsibility to challenge unsafe behaviours, and our collective responsibility to create an environment where others feel able to do the same.

The meeting was an opportunity for us to gain valuable feedback from the team and identify how DXI can continue to strengthen its safety culture.

Project Completion in Bury St Edmunds πŸ‘·β€β™‚οΈ

We’re pleased to announce the successful completion of our latest project, transforming an existing waste transfer station for FCC Environment on behalf of Suffolk County Council. The DXI team has carried out modification works to ensure the facility is fully equipped to accept food waste and create greater separation of waste streams.

Our team delivered the following modifications for the facility:
- Drainage and Containment: Installed high-performance drains and a specialised leachate tank to manage runoff securely and sustainably.
Structural Enhancements: Installed 12m of robust concrete block walling to create dedicated, durable containment zones. We also relocated structural steel works, installed new doorway openings and re-clad to perfectly match existing.
- Floor Restoration: Completely refinished the bay floor to withstand food waste run off.
- Access & Maintenance: Installed a brand-new roller shutter door system alongside a custom pressure washer system to keep the facility and vehicles pristine.

A huge well done and thank you to the site team! This project is a fantastic example of how we can repurpose existing assets to meet the evolving needs of waste management and sustainability. If we can help support you with similar projects then just get in touch, we'd love to hear from you.

DXI are working hard behind the scenes to support the UK's energy network.

Some recent pictures from our ongoing framework working on windfarms across the country.

With the increasing reliance on renewable energy and the push toward net zero, expanding further into the renewable energy sector has always been a clear goal for DXI.

12/02/2026

We can't stress enough the importance of providing young people with more opportunities to enter construction. Ultimately they're the future of our industry. Recent studies show:
πŸ‘·β€β™€οΈ Apprenticeship starts in construction have dropped by 14% since 2021/22.
πŸ‘· Just 11% of the construction workforce is aged 16–24.
πŸ‘·β€β™‚οΈ Nearly half of students (47%) said construction wasn’t mentioned in their school careers advice.
πŸ‘·β€β™€οΈ Only 1 in 5 construction companies takes on apprentices.
90% of young people who did a work placement said it gave them valuable workplace skills.
πŸ‘· The industry needs an extra 250,000 workers by 2028 to meet demand.

As part of our membership with The 5% Club, we met with local colleges to discuss our plans to provide students with work opportunities. Runshaw College put us in touch with one of their students, Edward Cheesman (Teddy), who is studying a T-level in Design, Surveying, and Planning for Construction and wanted to gain experience in civil engineering and project management. We're glad to say he's nearly completed the 215 hours of work experience needed for his T-level working with the DXI team on our sites at Barton and Farington.

After two weeks Teddy had already set out walkways, quantified and priced stone, completed a drawing with legends on, and assisted with a drainage inspection with LABC (picture below). He's continued to gain valuable mentorship and knowledge since, and kept evidence toward his qualification. We had the pleasure of watching him present a Toolbox Talk on winter working to the site team, complete with a presentation. It was clear that he had been warmly welcomed on site and built a rapport with the rest of the DXI team.

Teddy has given DXI strong feedback:
"The staff at DXI have been brilliant. I like how welcoming and helpful they have all been, and I’ve always felt at ease asking questions. Mark always has something for me to do and has taught me a lot. The engineering, health and safety, and quantity surveying teams were always happy to walk me through what they were doing. I’ve particularly enjoyed working with the engineering teams, using total stations to mark out where drainage is to be dug. I’ve already started applying what I’ve learned on my placement to my college work and exams.”

We want to say a massive thank you to our Site Manager at Barton, Mark Bonney, who has gone the extra mile as Teddy's supervisor. We must also thank our clients for allowing us to provide such valuable opportunities on our sites.
