From Constrained to Connected — A full ground floor transformation in Basingstoke✨

This project reimagines how the home works day-to-day, combining a side extension, garage conversion, and full internal reconfiguration to unlock space and flow.

The result?
✔️ A light-filled open-plan kitchen, dining and relaxation
✔️ Vaulted ceilings + rooflights to maximise volume and daylight
✔️ Strong indoor–outdoor connection to the garden
✔️ Practical additions including a utility and shower room

Material choices—dark crittall-style glazing and red-facing brick—were carefully selected to complement the existing character while giving the extension a confident, contemporary edge.

Light House Studio developed multiple concept options before refining the final scheme and supported the client with early contractor pricing to inform their budget strategy.

With a way forward, our clients now have the flexibility to move forward when the time is right.

🌿 New Project Appointment in Hampshire Countryside near Wi******er 🌿

Light House Studio are excited to begin work on the design for a ground floor rear extension and internal re-planning project to a charming brick and flint cottage in an idyllic rural setting.

Projects like this are always a privilege. Traditional cottages have a unique character and history, and our approach focuses on carefully reworking the existing layout while respecting the architectural heritage.

🔎 Struggling with Listed Building Conditions? You're Not Alone.

Many homeowners feel a huge sense of relief when their Listed Building Consent is granted.

But often, that’s not quite the end of the process.

Most consents come with conditions that must be discharged before work can begin, such as:

• Material samples (brick, stone, mortar, timber)
• Detailed drawings for windows, doors, or joinery
• Conservation repair method statements
• Method statements for sensitive works
• Additional heritage approvals

Until these conditions are formally approved by the council, starting work may not be lawful — even though consent has been granted.

I’m proud to share that at the end of January, I completed the 12-week Help to Grow: Management Course through the School of Business and Law at the University of Brighton.

The course gave me the opportunity to step back from the day-to-day running of Light House Studio and focus on the longer-term vision for the business – where I want it to go and how to get there.

Balancing the 12-week programme alongside running my practice, parenting, and supporting a disabled parent has been full-on, but worth it! The mix of lectures, workshops and case studies provided a huge amount of insight, which I’ll definitely return to.

I’ve come away with a stronger grasp of financial planning, sustainable growth and strategic management – along with valuable new connections across the region. Learning from other business owners and their experiences, many further along in their journey, was a real highlight.

In architecture and construction, it’s easy to get stuck in delivery mode a lot of the time, especially in the current challenging climate. I’ve come away from the course feeling inspired, energised and excited for what’s next — including moving into my new office.
