Back Catalogue Spotlight: Cedar Lodges, 2015

Built in 2015, Cedar Lodges transformed a redundant garage site in Wi******er into a pair of contemporary semi-detached homes. Designed as simple rectangular forms with pitched roofs, the lodges combine vertical cedar cladding with a zinc roof, creating a contemporary response to the surrounding urban context.

The scheme carefully balances privacy, natural light and efficient use of space — with south-facing glazing, sheltered parking below, and controlled views to neighbouring properties. Over time, the cedar cladding weathers to silver, allowing the buildings to blend naturally into their landscape setting.

A small commercial opportunity evolved into a thoughtful, modern residential intervention — demonstrating how constrained sites can still deliver high-quality architecture.

Jasmine Cottage - Corten Roof

The Corten roof at Jasmine Cottage continues to develop its rich, evolving patina—settling into the landscape as the project progresses on site.

It’s always rewarding to see materials transform over time, adding depth and character to the architecture as they weather naturally.

A home should evolve with the way you live.

During the school half term, many families find themselves reflecting on whether their current home still meets their needs — for space, flow, and quality of life.

A well-designed extension can do more than add square footage. It can fundamentally reframe a home: improving proportion, connection to the garden, natural light, and the overall sense of calm and order.

We work with homeowners to design highly considered, contemporary, bespoke extensions and reconfigurations that respect the existing architecture while significantly elevating it.

If you are exploring ideas for your home, we would be happy to help. Contact us on 01962 680221.

Maximising light. Framing views. Connecting to landscape.

At Nixon House, slimline glazing played a key role in shaping how the home is experienced. Designed as a collection of contemporary barn-style forms, the layout creates sheltered courtyard spaces and carefully framed views across the surrounding countryside.

Working in collaboration with Maxlight, we introduced ultra-slim sliding glazing to create seamless connections between the internal living spaces and outdoor terraces — allowing natural light to flood the interiors while maintaining uninterrupted views.

The result is a home that feels open, calm and closely connected to its rural setting — where the boundaries between inside and outside are softened, and the landscape becomes part of everyday living.

Maxlight’s made-to-measure architectural glazing systems are designed with minimal frames to maximise daylight and create clean, contemporary sightlines — helping to achieve the refined finish seen at Nixon House.

A great example of how collaboration between architect and glazing specialist can elevate a home.

Split House: Light BetweenForms

Split House is a carefully considered response to both site and context, set within a historic parkland landscape. The design is defined by two distinct gabled volumes, subtly separated and connected by a fully glazed link that forms the heart of the home.

This central space is more than just circulation—it draws natural light deep into the plan, creates visual connections between the two wings, and frames views out to the surrounding greenery. The result is a home that feels open and connected, yet maintains a clear sense of privacy and retreat.

Materially grounded in brick yet expressed in a contemporary language, Split House balances tradition with modern living. Each element is designed to work in harmony to create a calm, cohesive environment.

A home shaped not just by how it looks, but by how it’s lived in.

Summers House — Adding the finishing touches

As this beautiful project nears completion, it’s incredibly rewarding to see the transformation come to life. Every detail is coming together, and the vision is now a reality.

One of the final jobs is to install the external cladding. We’re excited to be working with to clad the exterior in Dekton, a carbon neutral surface offering durability, precision, and a refined stone-like quality, bringing a crisp, contemporary finish to the extension.

Cakeham House: Sustainable by Design

Cakeham House demonstrates how considered retrofit design can dramatically improve the performance of an existing home.

Through a fabric-first approach, all-electric heating via air source heat pump, and on-site solar PV, the project moved from EPC D to EPC B with a SAP rating of 89.

A home designed for comfort, efficiency and a low-carbon future.

Back catalogue spotlight: West Wittering, 2020.

Known as Kestrel and Kite, the homes were conceived as a complementary pair: connected in material language, yet each with its own identity. Timber cladding, cedar shingles and crisp white render create a modern response rooted in the local vernacular.

Positioned to maximise views, privacy and solar gain, the homes demonstrate how thoughtful architecture can elevate speculative development into something enduring.

Great design should always feel timeless.

Bringing the countryside into the city

Our roof garden for John Lewis Southampton transforms an underused roof terrace into a vibrant urban oasis inspired by the Waitrose Leckford Estate — the partnership’s iconic Hampshire farm.

Designed to echo the character of the estate’s fields and wildflower meadows, the space creates a unique connection between retail and rural heritage offering shoppers a moment of calm, connection and discovery between store and farm.

Even the smallest spaces deserve thoughtful design.

Cloakrooms and WCs may be compact, but they offer a great opportunity to introduce personality and carefully crafted details. Often used by visiting guests, these rooms can create a lasting impression and reflect the wider design language of a home.

From natural light and material choices to bespoke joinery and carefully selected fittings, we design these spaces with the same care and attention as the main living areas.

Sometimes, it's the smallest rooms that say the most about a home.
