☀️ Heatwave & Timber – What You Need to Know 🌳

With the hot weather we're experiencing, it's completely normal for timber to change.

As a natural product, timber expands and contracts with changes in temperature and moisture. During a heatwave, timber dries out more quickly, which can cause:

✔️ Splits or surface cracks (known as checks or shakes)
✔️ Shrinkage and slight gaps appearing
✔️ Bowing, twisting or cupping in some pieces
✔️ Fence boards opening up as they dry

These changes are a natural characteristic of timber and are not a fault. In many cases, timber will absorb moisture again when wetter weather returns, reducing some of these effects.

To help protect your timber during hot weather:
🌿 Store it flat and supported.
🌿 Avoid leaving untreated timber in direct sunlight for long periods.
🌿 Wait until temperatures are cooler before applying stain or treatment, as extreme heat can affect how the product performs.
