FAQ: What construction methods are available for self-build projects?

Houses in the UK have traditionally been built with cavity walls since the 1920s.

But that doesn’t mean you should build yours using that method! These days, we've helped clients undertake a range of self-builds, including:

Some exciting progress updates on our clients' conservation remodelling!

Our client purchased this 4-storey, locally listed period property with the aim of returning it to its original appearance whilst internally remodelling and extending to the rear.

As the site is in a conservation area, planning permission was required, and our MB Architecture team prepared an application that highlighted the lengths the owner is willing to go to in order to achieve an aesthetically original façade.

A few highlights from the proposal 👇
🏡 The extension was proposed in an architectural style closely matching that of the main house.
🪟 The heritage windows were chosen in timber.
🧱 The character detailing, including brickwork and timber facade, was to be repaired and reinstated where required.

We're pleased to say that planning permission was granted and the project is well underway!

This 1960s remodel was so transformative that at first glance, you might not believe we retained the majority of the existing structure. 🏡

One concern that clients sometimes have about getting an extension is losing outdoor space.

Whilst in some cases this is unavoidable, a well-thought-out design can maximise both.
