So, while we were waiting for the engineer to get back to us on our Barkham job (seemed to be a lifetime at the moment) we got stuck into a little patio area and driveway for some repeat clients, whose main patio we did a couple of years ago.

The clients wanted to go from a David Attenborough narrative looking area, to one where I think Tom Hiddleston could work on.
Gone from the old rotten timber decking to a more sleek sleeper and porcelain look.

The tired tarmac drive made way for a more new and improved trio block paved drive.

Very happy clients.

Steel beams and columns installed last week. These were fun to install, a lot of jiggery pockery, and man handling.

Columns are bolted into padstones with M12 bolts 🔩and a lovely drop of RKem. They're going nowhere 💪🏽

So, the client asked if we could do a brick detail all around the house, and we were more than happy to oblige.
Using a stunning Swanage hand made brick, we built a dental course detail. This is a brick laid in stretcher for the first course, then a course of headers, then finished with another course of stretchers.

I did ask the clients how they would like the finish, and they just said 'Dan, finish it how you want'. So, I did. We finished the dental course with a birds beak pointed finish. And the clients were very happy with it.

It does look bloody great, even if I do say so myself 😉

We had to dig a few inspection holes at the building inspectors request, as he was worried about the load that was due to be taken from above.
This did halt progress on the build, but not by a lot. It was a necessary to get the approval to be able to carry on.
All passed, and then filled back in using a lean concrete mix and compacted at every 200mm.

Off with the roof and existing a joists.The team then got stuck into laying new lintels for the existing window openings...

Off with the roof and existing a joists.
The team then got stuck into laying new lintels for the existing window openings, new steels for new internal openings, and raising the internal blockwork for the new joist height.

We made a couple of changes to the existing drawings and specs. One being the lounge bay window, it was originally for a concrete lintel, which we changed to a steel. The building inspector was more satisfied with this decision.

New joists set in place with new flooring laid, we had a much safer working space to accommodate for what we had planned next.

It's been a while since I've posted, but we have been very busy chaps.
So, we had our pasl put up a tin hat scaffold for us, so that we could get stuck into the removal of the existing roof tiles, rafters, and joists.
Took us just a couple of days to remove.
The clients decided that they didn't want to reuse the existing tiles, and wanted to go with something more modern.
But we still carefully stacked the tiles, and found a new home for them, rather than skipping them. They were a beautiful old clay tile, and it would have been sacrilegious to just chuck away.

How are we people

I've been rather distracted with a lot behind the scenes, so many photos of jobs we've completed that I haven't had much time to post.
As well as a few family bereavements, that have hit me hard.
But, we move on as we always do.

It's always a pleasure to work alongside our friends at .
Erecting a tin hat for us at our job that will be starting in Wokingham in the coming weeks.

Existing roof removal for us to add an extra lift and new roof to the property.
