FROM HAILSTORM DAMAGE TO A ROOM THEY CAN USE ALL YEAR 🏡

This one started as a simple insurance repair and ended up becoming something much better.

The homeowners are existing Shires customers, and after the recent hailstorm damaged their old polycarbonate conservatory roof, they contacted us for a quotation to replace it.

When I went out to assess the damage, I suggested another option.

Rather than simply using the insurance contribution to put another polycarbonate roof back on, why not use that money towards upgrading to a fully insulated Smart Roof instead?

They decided it was too good an opportunity to miss — and we're glad they did!

The old polycarbonate roof has now been replaced with our Smart Roof system, completely changing the feel and potential of the conservatory. Instead of a room that becomes extremely cold and difficult to use through winter, they've now got a space they're looking forward to enjoying throughout the year.

A special mention for Chris, who received fantastic feedback from the customer. They described him as “excellent”, praised how tidy he kept everything and how well he kept them informed throughout the installation.

And perhaps the best recommendation of all — a neighbour has already spotted the finished roof, asked who did it and is considering having hers replaced too!

20 YEARS LATER… THEY CAME BACK TO SHIRES 👏

There’s something particularly nice about this one.

We first carried out work for Mr & Mrs Hanson around 20 years ago, installing windows and their original door.

After all those years, the old door had finally reached the point where replacement made more sense than repair.

And when they needed a new one, they came straight back to Shires.

During the initial visit we also suggested changing the original design slightly and fitting a lower threshold, making access easier and removing the old step and potential trip hazard.

The feedback from Mr & Mrs Hanson was great:

A big thank you as well to Dave for another clean and professional installation, and to Jim and Ruth for keeping everything running smoothly from survey through to completion.

🏡 WHAT A TRANSFORMATION!

These before and after photos really do speak for themselves.

Mr & Mrs Evanson came to us with a traditional conservatory with an old polycarbonate roof. They wanted to turn it into a room they could properly enjoy, and the finished result is a complete transformation.

We removed the old roof and installed a new double hip SupaLite tiled roof, fully insulated and beautifully plastered internally, turning the conservatory into a fantastic new reading and TV room.

And the customer feedback? 👌

⭐ “We’ve got no faults whatsoever.”
⭐ “Very professional.”
⭐ “Couldn’t fault the lad.”
⭐ “Definitely recommend it.”

They also had huge praise for Jim, particularly his workmanship and work ethic:

Sometimes it's the finer details that make all the difference.

For this recent installation, our customer chose cream UPVC windows with leaded glass instead of standard white.

It was a subtle change, but one that completely transformed the appearance of the property, giving it a much more traditional cottage feel that complements the character of the home.

At Shire Conservatories, we believe the right choice isn't always the most obvious one. Taking the time to consider colours, glazing and finishing touches can make a huge difference to the final result and create a look you'll enjoy for years to come.

“I’d just bring them here and show them this.”

That was the answer when we asked one of our latest customers what they’d tell a friend who was considering using Shires.

And looking at the finished garden room, we can see why.

This project was much more than simply installing a new room. Shires looked after the complete job, including the building works, garden room installation, plastering, electrics, Building Regulations and the new patio surrounding it.

The customers had several quotations before choosing us and openly admitted we weren't the cheapest.

What mattered to them was having one company responsible for everything, knowing who they could contact if they had a question and having confidence the job would be completed properly.

The feedback for the team was fantastic.

Ruth was described as “a dream”, Jim received huge praise for his ideas, workmanship and the fact “he just doesn't stop”, while Wayne and the building team, Tucker, Ally and Ian were all praised for their professionalism, reliability and attention to detail.

One comment that really stood out was:

“If they said they'd be here at eight o'clock, they were here.”

And when we asked what they were most pleased with?

“Everything.”

They described the finished room as “stunning”, “beautiful” and said they were “over the moon” with the result.

You won’t believe this is the same house… 👀

Take a proper look at these before and after photos.

What started as a traditional 1960s bungalow has been completely transformed into this stunning modern two-storey home.

This was a joint project across the Shires and Shropshire Builders team, involving major building and structural works, a completely new upper storey and roof, windows and doors, plastering, electrics and all the detail needed to bring the whole transformation together.

And this wasn’t a case of simply following a set of drawings.

Pete and Clare worked closely with Gavin, Wayne and the team throughout, with ideas discussed and details changed along the way whenever we felt there was a better way of doing something.

When I carried out the final Customer Experience Review, Pete summed up the finished result perfectly:

“It’s exactly what we envisaged.”

What meant even more was hearing how much they valued the people behind the project. They described the team as:

“Customer focused, producing work of extremely high quality and genuinely caring about delivering what they promise.”

Wayne received some incredible feedback for his work ethic, organisation and attention to detail, alongside fantastic comments for Gavin, Jim, Brian, Jack, Ally and everyone else involved in delivering the project.

Apparently we’re not the only ones impressed with the finished result either…

Pete and Clare told us people regularly slow down or stop outside to look at the house. One driver even pulled over, wound his window down and shouted:

“What you’ve done there is fantastic.”

When you put the before and after photos side-by-side, you can see why.

Sometimes it's the little details that make the biggest difference.

For this recent window replacement project, our customer decided to go with cream UPVC windows with leaded glass instead of standard white—and the finished result looks fantastic.

He told us it has completely changed the look of the property, giving it a much more traditional cottage feel.

The feedback for the team was brilliant throughout. Gavin, Ruth, Jim and Dave all received top marks, with Dave receiving particular praise for his workmanship, attention to detail and leaving everything "OCD tidy."

When asked what impressed him most about Shires, his answer was simple:

"The timekeeping and work ethic."

He also summed up his experience in just a few words:

"Good quality and good service."

One of the things we hear time and time again is that customers don't want the hard sell... they just want honest advice.

This customer had already trusted Shires with a replacement conservatory roof, so when it came to replacing their tired door, they invited us back.

Rather than simply swapping the old door for a new one, Gavin suggested redesigning the entrance by narrowing the opening with matching side infills and fitting a more modern door with a lower threshold.

The result is a stronger, smarter entrance that the customer described as:

"I'm over the moon with it."

The feedback for the team was fantastic, with special praise for Ruth's communication and Chris's hard work on the installation.

Perhaps the biggest compliment came at the end of my visit, when the customer introduced me to their neighbour, who had admired the finished job and is now looking at having work carried out by Shires too.

Recommendations like that mean everything to us.
