We attended an annual service for a Vaillant boiler last week and found some significant faults. The case seals had failed and were allowing dangerous fumes to flow back into the property. We immediately isolated the boiler cutting off the fumes, we then fitted a new cover and seals. After a thorough restest, the boiler was fit and safe for use.

Keeping our cities green

Trees for cities plant a tree for each boiler that we install, and we are proud to continue our support of this great charity through 2022 and beyond.

The charity has been going since 1993 and does fantastic work with communities up and down the country. Their goal is to keep our cities green by planting trees in urban areas helping the environment at the same time as engaging communities.

They also work with schools running several programmes to help connect children to the natural world. You can find out more about trees for cities via their website.

Vertical Flue for a new boiler install

As it wasn't possible to place this new boiler on an external wall, we had to install a vertical Flue. Tom and Sam did a tidy job of getting the Flue around the loft joists and our customer is really pleased with the solution.

A collapsed bath emergency!

This week we had a call from a private landlord as their bath had collapsed through the bathroom floor due to poor installation work (not by us!).

We attended immediately as the home was occupied and the tenants could not be without a bath. As you can see from the top picture, the bath was badly fitted and needed a proper structure to support it.

Tom first removed the bath and laid down a solid base. He then built a secure wooden frame to hold the bath in place before re-fitting it. This was all done within 48 hours of the call, and both the landlord and tenants are pleased with the speed and standard of work.

Since the job, the landlord has decided to have a total bathroom overhaul and has asked us to do the work. Watch this space for pictures of the finished job.

It’s Gas Safety Week 2021 this week! & LM Plumbers are supporting.

Gas Safety Week 2021 is in its 11th year now and it raises awareness of gas safety and why it’s important to take care of your gas appliances. It is organised by the Gas Safe Register, the list of gas engineers legally allowed to work on gas.

As we have mentioned many times previously, poorly maintained or badly fitted gas appliances are dangerous. They can cause gas leaks, fires, explosions, and carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning.

This year’s Gas Safety Week addresses a whole range of gas safety issues: from how to stay gas safe, to using a qualified, registered engineer and much more. Its main aim is to ensure the community doesn’t suffer from the effects of illegal gas work through a lack of awareness.

Boiler installation in Worcester

We installed a new Worcester 8000 last week during a house renovation of a lovely 1930s property in Worcester. It was great to work on an installation with new exposed copper pipework. We also fitted radiators throughout the renovated property, the customer is very happy with the result.

Dangerous levels of carbon monoxide

This week we carried out an annual LPG gas safety inspection on behalf of a private landlord for their rented property in Worcester. This was the first time that we have worked with this customer.

On inspection of the boiler (which was in the main bedroom), we found numerous faults and many maintenance issues due to poor servicing. We were confident that we could rectify the faults there and then until we carried out the flue gas analysis.

During the analysis we found that the boiler was producing life-threatening amounts of carbon monoxide, we attempted to bring these levels down but it was not possible. We immediately isolated the boiler and a warning sticker was applied.

We have since installed a new ideal Logic with a 7-year warranty and our new customers' rental property is now secure and their tenants safe.

On the 9th and 10th of September 2021, I am cycling from Worcester to Lyme Regis to raise money and awareness for the rare and deadly heart condition Sarcoidosis.

This heart condition took the life of James, one of my good friends' cousins, suddenly back in 2015. For the last 5 years, his family and friends have been doing this 140-mile ride to raise money and awareness about this condition.

Dangerous fumes

During a recent annual gas safety inspection, we found dangerous fumes escaping through the chimney mortar joints. After completing the risk assessment, we have isolated the gas fire until the chimney can be fixed and made safe.

This dangerous problem highlights the importance of getting an annual gas safety check, ensuring that your property and its occupants are safe.
