✨ What an incredible journey the past four years have been for Keystone Architecture & Design LTD!

We’ve grown, learned, and delivered projects that we are truly proud of — and this chapter is just the beginning of an even bigger story.

While it would have been wonderful to finish this phase with an award, our proudest recognition comes from our clients.

The homeowners of our Worcestershire entry remind us why we do this work: “We love our home more every single day.”
That, for us, is the real prize, creating homes that not only bring joy but also tread lightly on the planet as low-energy buildings.

One moment that stays with me: after we adapted the façade following planning feedback, the client wasn’t sure at first but trusted us in the process. Once the project was complete, they told us those changes gave the property its true character, and now they love it. That kind of transformation is what architecture is all about.

A heartfelt thank you to the Keystone team over the years , Valeria Fabiano, .margherita , , , Vallita Costantini— for your talent, commitment, and belief in our vision. 🙏

Now, as we turn the page, a new chapter in Keystone’s history begins. We can’t wait to share it with you. Stay tuned — the best is yet to come.

💡 And always remember: the cheapest and greenest energy is the one we don’t use.

This summer we had the chance to revisit some of our recent projects — thanks to Jeffrey Benavidez for the fantastic drone footage!

This project is located in the Lenches near Evesham and was part of a major refurbishment. The works included a small extension that improved the internal layout and enhanced the property’s kerb appeal, making the most of its original features. We also took the opportunity to improve some aspects of comfort and usability.

We’ve been so busy lately that we almost forgot to celebrate another planning approval, this time for a beautifully crafted low-energy timber frame home in West Northamptonshire. 🎉

Groundworks began last Friday!

This project is designed with a strong sustainability focus:

✅ Ground Source Heat Pump for efficient heating
✅ Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
✅ Photovoltaic panels
✅ Timber frame construction to minimise embodied carbon and maximise performance

We are working closely with both the clients and the timber frame manufacturer to ensure seamless delivery, combining architectural design, building physics, and renewable technologies into a home that is both future-proof and comfortable.

It’s projects like this that showcase how thoughtful design and collaboration can deliver sustainable, energy-efficient homes that are a joy to live in.

If you’re considering a low-energy or Passivhaus home, or want to explore retrofit and sustainability options for your project, get in touch, we’d love to help bring your vision to life!

What a great day to receive Listed Building Consent!

This project has been a real challenge: from convincing the structural engineer that we needed detailed drawings even at planning stage, to navigating months of conversations with the conservation officer.

In the end, it took us four months longer than a standard application, but we finally got there!

Working with listed buildings is at the heart of what we do. As hashtag designers, we’re passionate about bringing our expertise into hashtag projects. By applying building physics principles, we ensure that every intervention both enhances and respects the character of the building.

Even if a project doesn’t reach full EnerPHit standards, the input of a Passivhaus designer is still incredibly valuable, helping to reduce energy demand, improve comfort, and safeguard the building fabric for the future.

Heritage + sustainability really can go hand in hand.

We’re excited to be at the hashtag in Bath on Saturday 6th September, organised by Retrofit West CIC.

It’s a great opportunity to come and chat with us about your retrofit or home energy project, whether you’re just starting to explore options or already planning the next steps.

Come along, say hello, and let’s talk about how we can make homes healthier, more comfortable, and energy efficient.

🪨 Rooted in Place, Designed for the Future

This pairing of Cotswold stone and timber cladding captures the balance we
strive for in our work — drawing from local materials and traditions, while
embracing a modern, sustainable approach to design.
The natural stone anchors the building in its setting, while the timber brings
warmth, softness, and a lower-carbon alternative to more intensive materials.
It’s not just about what looks right — it’s about what belongs.
Materials chosen with care. Details that reflect their context. Buildings that
stand the test of time.

🌟 Exciting News: Planning Permission Granted! 🌟

We’re thrilled to announce that planning permission has officially been granted for a sustainable new build in Evesham! 🎉

This unique project involved the development of a building plot within a private garden, maximizing space and increasing housing supply without impacting greenfield land. It’s proof that with the right approach, clever infill development can make a huge difference!

Here’s why we’re so excited about this design:
🏡 Compact & Efficient Layout
🌞 PV Solar Panels + Air Source Heat Pump
🏗️ Zero Thermal Bridging & High Thermal Performance
💧 Rainwater Harvesting System
🌱 Biodiverse, Drought-Resistant Landscaping
🌍 Exceeds SWDP 27 Standards (Even under 100 sqm!)

This little home has a big environmental impact, proving that sustainable, community-friendly housing is possible in unexpected places. It’s a perfect example of what happens when you hire an architect and certified Passive House Designer — innovative, low-carbon living at its best!

📩 Have a garden plot or underused land? Let’s chat and explore the possibilities for your next sustainable project.

🌱 Sustainable Building Spotlight 🌍

Building sustainably isn’t just a trend—it’s a responsibility. Each week, we’ll share key concepts from our work at Keystone Architecture & Design to help you understand and apply sustainable design principles to your projects.

Week 07 - Energy Performance Certificate (EPC): The first step in understanding the energy efficiency of your home is to look at its Energy Performance Certificate (EPC). This certificate provides an energy efficiency rating from A to G, where A is the most efficient and G is the least efficient. A well-rated EPC can give you insights into how your home performs in terms of energy usage and carbon emissions.

If you don’t already have an EPC, it’s worth getting one done. You can find or request a copy of your home’s EPC online at https://lnkd.in/eA_3FR38. The certificate not only provides a snapshot of your current energy efficiency but also offers tailored recommendations to improve your home’s rating. These recommendations break down the improvements you can make, such as upgrading insulation, changing windows, or switching to more efficient heating systems, and show you how each measure will impact your energy performance.

Understanding your EPC is a crucial step towards improving your home’s energy efficiency, lowering your carbon footprint, and reducing your energy bills.

Week 08 - Decarbonisation: Decarbonising our housing stock is essential to reducing carbon emissions and combating climate change. This involves removing fossil fuel-based heating systems, using electricity generated from renewable sources, and reducing the overall energy demand of our homes.

In 2025, the Government will introduce the Future Homes Standard, which will mandate that all new-build homes be “zero-carbon ready.” This means that new homes will not require further retrofitting to achieve zero-carbon operation once the electricity grid is fully decarbonised. This will be achieved through high levels of building fabric efficiency and the integration of low-carbon heating technologies, such as heat pumps and other renewable systems.

The Government also plans to phase out the installation of fossil-fuel-based heating systems (like gas boilers) in new builds from 2025. By taking these steps, we can move towards a housing stock that is much more energy-efficient and sustainable, contributing to a cleaner, greener future.

Week 09 - Airtightness: Airtightness refers to controlling unwanted air leakage through the building fabric, ensuring that warm air doesn’t escape and cold air doesn’t enter. Proper airtightness is key to achieving high energy efficiency and reducing energy bills, as it minimises the need for heating or cooling systems to work harder.

In new-build homes, building regulations set a maximum level of allowable air leakage. However, in Passive House buildings, the airtightness standard is even more stringent, requiring a much lower rate of air leakage. The tighter the building envelope, the less energy is lost, helping maintain a stable internal temperature with minimal energy consumption.

By improving airtightness, you can create a more energy-efficient home that stays comfortable year-round, reduces energy demand, and lowers your carbon footprint.
