Making a pile of gravel more interesting and wildlife friendly is a tall order! But all in a days work for the Two Wheel Gardener. I selected these plants not only for their attractive foliage and flowers, but also because they are either native or appreciated by our pollinators:

Cherry tree (Prunus incisa)
Heather (Calluna vulgaris)
Verbena Bonariensis
Climbing quince ( Chaenomeles)
Dyers Chamomile (Anthemis tinctoria)
Santolina rosmarinifolia
Red valerian (Centranthus ruber)

Always fantastic to see a vision come together like this. A happy client means I'm happy too!

Cutting down last year's bulrushes in this wicked wildlife pond. Birds and bugs enjoy using bulrushes over winter, so if you don't mind them, it's great to hold off cutting them until spring. Fantastic to see the pond absolutely teeming with life - newts, frogs (bonus spawn pic), dragonfly larva, and birds darting around above. Love it! 🐸

Now it's getting a bit warmer, it's a good time to think about laying turf! Lawns are often said to be terrible for wildlife, however they are undeniably very practical. A good compromise might be to put some bulbs in underneath - daffodils, hyacinths, or crocus happily make their way through the grass! đŸĒģ

It's almost time to start thinking about vegetables! Today I cleared out this lovely big raised bed. Last year's plants removed (apart from the chard and asparagus which are of course perennials), and fresh compost added. Ready to go! 🍅đŸĨ•đŸĢ›

Not my usual bag, but I'm more than happy to do a mow, strim, w**d, and tidy job! Especially if it's a gorgeous sunny day - I was not expecting to break out the sun hat and sun cream so soon this year. What a result! 🌞

Pot-grown trees and shrubs really benefit from some fresh compost at least every other year. It's best done while the plants are dormant in winter, and even better if you're lucky enough to catch a sunny winters day!🌞
