As construction work progresses it's essential to check everything has been built correctly and any design changes are accurately recorded. It's now 2 years since we originally laser scanned this 3-storey Victorian building in Kensington and delivered our client a high-detail Revit model to help with a major refurbishment project. Our surveyors have returned throughout the construction process to re-scan the building so the client has always had up-to-date accurate information to help with the design and construction process.

Our survey work to help bringing back to life Worcester's Scala Theatre might now be complete but we've recently been working on a similar project at the Burnley Empire. This Victorian masterpiece has been left to decay over the last 30 years or so but a team of local volunteers are working hard to save it and to bring performances back to its stage.

Sometimes, you might need to quickly measure a small building elevation but don’t necessarily need the high accuracy you would get with one of our surveys. There are now plenty of phone apps that you can use to capture the world in 3D. Our favourite is Polycam - it works with most smart phones but it really comes into its own if you use the iPhone Pro with its built-in LiDAR. Capturing something like a building elevation in 3D can be really usefully but how can you turn that 3D model into a 2D CAD drawing? In this short video Steve Bury explains how.

It's great to see another fabulous measured building survey of a church being issued today. Our in-house team used data from & to create our latest accurate model.
As our business servicing the and sector has grown, our expertise in surveying has been in high demand. Even for customers working in 2D we usually produce a these days so they can have as many additional sections and internal elevations as they need to make their work easier. Any intricate details that are hard to show in a model are added in CAD or they're shown as an ortho-image. Sill with an S or a C?
Following a brief discussion in the office this morning, when one of our younger team members asked which spelling is correct, I set out on a Google mission to find the truth! Who knew so much had been written about this little word?
Our consensus is that the use of “sill” is preferable, not least because we use the letter S to denote a sill height and C for a ceiling height; Were we to deviate from this I’m sure it would cause havoc!
While the Oxford Dictionary considers cill to be a historic variant for sill, and indeed, Microsoft Word clearly doesn’t like “cill” (red underlining everywhere!), I have also found that within the construction industry, cill appears to be the preferred/correct spelling.
What are your thoughts?
