York stone ⚒️

A sandstone material that has been used for many generations across the construction and memorial industry, known for its durability and characteristics.

This recent installation at St Peter’s Church (Stoke Bliss, Tenbury Wells) was a replacement for the original memorial which sadly didn’t have enough space remaining for the third inscription to be added.

Many sandstone materials, like this York stone, are suitable for memorial use and look especially at home in old Churchyards in years to come once they start to take on a weathered patina.

“Simple Yet Effective”

A phrase I find myself saying to families on a regular basis.

Some of our memorials are flamboyant, high in detail, expressing thoughts and feelings with many words and verses… others take on a an entirely different display - Simple yet effective.

Here is a great example of this on a cremation memorial we recently provided an additional inscription upon; now fitting back in its place at Hallow Church.

Every burial authority has different rules for the memorials they will permit within their grounds.

⛪️ Churchyard regulations are periodically reviewed and set by the Chancellor of the Diocese, wherein each Parish can further limit the rules and again each Church within a Parish can further still limit the Diocese regulations.

An example here is this cremation tablet memorial which is Rustenburg dark grey granite (the darkest permitted in the Diocese of Worcester) with a honed “unpolished” finish.

At 12” x 12” this memorial is relatively small but still holds a huge amount of emotion for the family - small but mighty

📍 Stoke Prior - Bromsgrove

The finished memorial standing proud at St Michael and All Angels Church

The silvered inscription beautifully compliments the highlighted daisy carving which adorns this large headstone memorial

⭐️ 23.5ct Gold Leaf - Gilding ⭐️

Gilding done properly

🚫 No acrylic water based resin type paint, which has become popular by many monumental stone masonry companies, but the real deal 💛

Following on from our last post, here’s the finished memorial fixed in place at Strawberry Lane Cemetery.

The beautiful Barmouth Bridge scenery art on this polished dark grey granite memorial really looks stunning.

A previous memorial we completed at another location is what gave the family the inspiration for this memorial

🎨 Beautiful bit of scenery art on this polished dark grey granite memorial.

Ready to cut the lettering ✨

Barmouth bridge is a popular landmark with a stunning and dramatic scene. This is the second time we have been commissioned to produce this, with the previous one several years ago taken from a different angle.

Pebble stone memorial

It’s sad to hear from clients that other masons have declined their ideas as not being possible or simply not worthy of their time 😢

Whilst not every idea can become a reality due to an array of factors; for me it’s important to be patient, listen and offer advice when required.

Sometimes you cannot give a straight “yes” to a customer’s idea and may have to do a little further investigation before being able to give an answer.

Below are two pebble stone memorials which a customer brought into me and asked the question… “can these stones have an inscription cut into them”.
The surface is uneven and overall they are irregular shapes, but that aside doesn’t stop an idea in its tracks.

The end result speaks for itself, maybe not as perfect a finish as a flat and prepared surface will provide, but a very happy family collected these upon completion with many words of thanks 🙏
