Yesterday’s job was a bit of a shocker 😳

We were called out to an oven that kept tripping the electrics. While we were there, the landlord asked us to take a look at an extractor fan that had been replaced by another electrician a few weeks ago and had been running constantly.

To our horror… this is what we found 👇

A standard switched fan wired into a permanent live.

💨 Ducting not attached
💧 Condensation already leaking back through the vent
💷 And a £600 quote just to “patch the hole”!

We replaced it with the correct timer fan, properly installed it, and patched the gap ready for the tenant to sand and paint.

Best part?

We supplied and swapped the oven AND supplied and fitted the new fan for less than what they’d been quoted just to patch around the botched fan install.

Honest work. Done properly. No cutting corners. 👍

⚡ Emergency Call Out – Electrical Safety Reminder ⚡

Yesterday evening we attended an emergency call-out for a customer who had reported a loss of power followed by crackling coming from their consumer unit.

Upon inspection, we found loose connections within the consumer unit which had begun overheating. As a result, a last-minute consumer unit upgrade was required to make the installation safe.

Fortunately, the customer was at home at the time and contacted us quickly. The power hadn’t tripped, meaning the issue could easily have gone unnoticed and potentially ended much worse.

This is a strong reminder of the importance of having a regular Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) carried out. While some faults can be difficult to predict, regular inspections can identify loose connections, wear and tear, and other safety concerns before they escalate.

As a company, we always recommend having an EICR every 5 years to ensure your installation remains safe and compliant.

If you haven’t had your electrics checked in a while, now is the time. Your safety is always worth it. 🔌
