£110 for an EICR — bargain for the customer, or a race to the bottom for the industry? 🤔
We’ve been pricing our EICRs at around £180, so when you see companies offering them for £110, it raises a genuine question…
How are they doing a full, thorough EICR correctly for that price?
Is it simply better efficiency and lower overheads? Or are prices being driven down to the point where something has to give — time spent testing, quality of inspection, reporting, or ultimately the standard of the work?
An EICR isn’t just turning up, plugging a tester in and printing a certificate. There’s the inspection, testing, investigation, recording results, assessing observations and producing a report that actually reflects the condition of the installation.
At £110, once you take away travel, labour, testing equipment, insurance, admin, certification and overheads… what’s realistically left for the electrician’s time?
And if £110 is genuinely enough to do the job properly, then fair play — maybe we’re simply pricing ourselves too high.
But if it isn’t, are we as an industry undervaluing the work and creating a race to the bottom?
