Cup Final

SJR Worksop Blues vs Bolsover Town Lions

So here it is…the biggest match of the season for the Lions…the cup final. All the team’s hard work over the last few weeks came down to this.

After a week of glorious weather the Lions travelled in rain, drizzle & dark clouds to Thorncliffe, a neutral venture that the league provided for the cup final. A quick pre match pep talk, a bit of a warm up and the Lions were ready to go!

The Lions set up well and quickly put their stamp on the match playing high up the pitch in an attempt to build pressure on the Worksop goal. Using some excellent team work the team kept the ball well and offered Worksop very little, however Bolsover did have to show some patience and perseverance for their first goal which was an excellent strike hit sweetly from Ben to put the Lions into the lead. There was a moment where Worksop drew level but thanks to a goal lines clearance the team headed into halftime unscathed.

The second half was a cracker. Bolsover upped the tempo in search for a second and Worksop knew they needed a goal to stay in the game. We saw some superb wing play with balls being played into the box time after time but Bolsover simply struggled to get on to the end of them.

The Lions almost found the back of the net with sublime free kick that just clipped the crossbar but after a handful of attempts the team’s efforts were rewarded with second goal slotted away confidently by captain Dexter.

From then on Worksop came across a little deflated but never gave up but the might of this team proved to much.

The Lions did it, they won the cup!

After entering this competition as the lowest ranked team Bolsover have thrown everything at this and thoroughly deserve this peice of silverware.

Congratulations Lions your hard work and resilience has paid off 👏
