Boiler Notice: I’ve had a lot of calls over the last couple of days with boilers shutting down in this cold weather. 9 times out of 10 it’s the condensate pipe outside that has frozen, causing the boiler to shut down. The best way to prevent this is to keep the boiler running all the time, which will protect against pipes freezing.

However, if your boiler develops a fault, it is likely to be a frozen condensate pipe - this is the white plastic pipe that comes off the bottom of the boiler. Find where it terminates outside (usually a drain) and pour some hot water on the pipe - this will then clear the pipe. You will then need to reset your boiler and in some cases, turn the power off and then back on again.
