When carrying out any boiler installation, we complete a full system powerflush as standard. This process removes years of built‑up sediment and debris from your heating system — often far more than homeowners realise is present.

To begin, specialist cleaning chemicals are introduced into the system to break down sludge and contaminants. We then connect a high‑flow flushing machine, which circulates water through the pipework at a much higher rate than the system’s own pump. As the increased flow dislodges sludge, it is captured by two powerful magnetic filters, preventing it from re‑entering the system.

While no powerflush can remove 100% of the sludge without replacing the entire heating system, it significantly improves system health and helps prolong the life of the boiler, its components, and particularly the main heat exchanger, which relies on smaller‑diameter waterways.

Once the cleaning stage is complete, the chemicals are thoroughly flushed out and replaced with clean, fresh water to give the system the best possible start.

Following the powerflush, we always install both system deaerators and system filters. These components continue to capture any remaining debris and air within the system, providing ongoing protection for your boiler and ensuring long‑term efficiency.

We were called out to investigate a leaking hot water cylinder. Upon arrival, we found that the cylinder had been installed only a few weeks earlier. During our inspection, it became apparent that the installer was not qualified to carry out the installation, and we identified several installation defects that did not comply with industry standards.

While discussing these issues with the customer and outlining the remedial work required, we discovered that the cylinder itself was leaking. The cause of the leak could not be conclusively determined and may have been due to either a manufacturing defect or issues arising from the poor installation. However, as the cylinder had not been installed by a qualified engineer, the manufacturer’s warranty was not valid.

After consulting with the customer and reviewing the available options, they elected to have us replace the cylinder. We removed the existing standard indirect cylinder and installed a smaller direct cylinder, which was better suited to the customer’s hot water requirements. The installation was completed with all necessary pipe insulation to improve efficiency and ensure compliance with current standards.
