📍 A Special Visit to Hill 112, Normandy
While enjoying a holiday in France with his wife Victoria, our representative Jim took the opportunity to visit the historic Hill 112 in Normandy.
A key strategic position during the Battle of Normandy, Hill 112 witnessed some of the fiercest fighting of the campaign. Today, it stands as a place of remembrance and reflection.
The site has a unique connection to Bartlett Tree Experts. At the centre of the memorial are 112 hornbeam trees, planted in the shape of a Maltese Cross. The trees were generously donated and planted by Bartlett Tree Experts as a lasting tribute to those who fought and gave their lives there.
The memorial is closely linked to Albert Figg, a veteran of the 43rd Wessex Division, whose determination helped ensure his fallen comrades would never be forgotten.
Jim and Victoria were also fortunate to meet Gilles Osmont, President of the Association, who kindly provided a guided tour of the memorial. His knowledge and insights brought to life the experiences of both the soldiers who fought on the hill and the local civilians who endured the devastating effects of war.
As Jim reflected after the visit:
"Hill 112 is a deeply moving place. It's a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by so many and a fitting tribute to those who should never be forgotten."
