Unlike hard landscape, planting is never fixed.

When working on a planting design, I often find myself asking:

How will it grow?

How will it respond to the soil and site conditions?
How will it change through the seasons, spread and self-seed?
How will it interact with the hard landscape as it grows?
And what habitat might it encourage over time?

Thinking about succession, resilience and a changing climate makes these everyday questions feel even more relevant — and often changes the way I approach the planting from the start.

One year later, and this space is thriving in the way we hoped it would.

My role as a designer is to shape that meeting point between architecture and landscape—creating a soft, cohesive layer that guides the transition from indoors to parkland.

Design sets the stage, but it’s the craftsmanship that brings the space to life. The hard‑landscaping team Future Landscapes, the planting specialist Thomas Carlin Landscapes, and our client’s year of care have all shaped the garden far beyond the initial design. A collaboration truly worth celebrating.

A day at to be inspired, to cheer on our fellow professionals, to celebrate with friends, and to simply enjoy the wonderful world of gardens.

As we move from one project to the next, our social media can sometimes go a little quiet. Behind the scenes, we’ve never stopped creating and designing, always trying to make the world a better place.

Lately, clients with completed gardens have been sending photos of their spaces looking their very best, and we are so grateful to see them thriving season after season.

The day we leave is only the beginning. Gardens continue to mature, settle, and evolve, while the story we created together keeps unfolding. 🌿
