DECLARE GOD’S WORD
Scripture Reading: Exodus 4
Then you shall say to Pharaoh, ‘Thus says the Lord: “Israel is My son, My firstborn. So I say to you, let My son go that he may serve Me. But if you refuse to let him go, indeed I will kill your son, your firstborn.”
Exodus 4:22-23
God sent Moses with specific acts to perform. He also sent him with specific words to speak. The impending confrontation between Moses and Pharaoh was primarily spiritual. On Pharaoh’s side were all the deities of Egypt. On Israel’s side was Almighty God. Pharaoh had armies armed with military weapons; Israel had the words and the signs that God had given Moses to work.
In many ways all of us who know Jesus as Lord, get engaged in battles where our opponents have superior weapons. Like Pharaoh, they many seem far more powerful than us and far better organized than us. How do we win in such contests?
1. *We win when we understand our relationship with God.* The Lord called Israel ‘my firstborn son’. That was an affectionate term to show the depth of God’s commitment to Israel. God acted to deliver Israel because of His relationship with them. Like Israel, God has a relationship with all of us who have made Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour. We are His beloved sons and daughters. That is the first reason why we win in life.
2. *We win when we learn to do battle with God’s word*. The Lord gave Moses the words to say when he met Pharaoh. The word of God from the mouth of Moses had the same power as if the Lord spoke those words to Pharaoh.
We triumph over the challenges of life when we face them with what God has said. When we meditate on His written word and cherish it in our hearts, the appropriate word for our challenges becomes readily available. When we declare it in faith, He gives us the victory.
God is able to defend His people. He acts on their behalf when they align themselves with His word.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I am yours and you are mine. Teach me how to speak your words into every situation facing me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
