This Christmas, while at the climbing centre in my home town, I had the fortune to meet another family. Elizabeth had two children including a daughter on the Autistic spectrum and had realised, long ago, that home learning suited their needs better than standard institutions could at that time.

This is not unusual in the UK but the way she went about it was something else. Having found a piece of land from a local owner, she developed it from scratch into a home learning environment. She, along with the parents, funded this project including the construction of a beautiful barn as a base in natural surroundings.

They entered into a type of accredited curriculum scheme but the daily educational experiences echoed Reggio and Steiner approaches. See their about section or Google Heads, hearts and hands for similar curriculum guides. I especially liked the 'Dragonfly Learning' description of what this actually looks like as a daily rhythm.
