📗A Home That Grows With You

Tucked within United College’s hillside campus at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Choi Kai Yau Residence is designed to be more than just a dormitory. It‘s a place to live, connect, and grow.

The project spans over 6,300 square metres and provides 125 double bedrooms along with shared amenities including a hall, gym and reading room. The design responds to the site’s steep slope and semi-open courtyards by arranging rooms around two shifted courtyards that draw light and air through the building. Public spaces open toward the campus square, while bedrooms face outward to green views and the distant landscape.

The facade uses horizontal slabs and vertical fins for solar shading, giving the building a clean, contemporary rhythm that references the campus‘s modernist heritage, while step seats in the courtyards, a rooftop terrace, and a double-height lobby create informal gathering spots and a sense of arrival and openness to daily life.

This is a contemporary campus living experience, and a nurturing home for a community growing together.

As a proud partner of Project WeCan 學校起動計劃 , we were delighted to host four students from Ko Lui Secondary School for a two-week job tasting programme at our studio this year.

Across marketing, administration, and landscape architecture, they gained valuable hands-on experience and a real glimpse into the world of design.

The programme concluded with a final presentation where the students confidently shared their learnings and reflections — “Before I came here, I always thought design was just about making things look pretty and cool. But while working on the estate facility project, my mind totally changed. I realized that real design is way more complex—you have to think about the natural environment, the budget, and how people actually use the space.”

It is always inspiring to witness young talent discovering their potential, and LWK + PARTNERS are proud to support the next generation of architects, designers, and creative thinkers.

Here’s to the bright futures ahead of them! 🌟

Water arrives too fast, stays too briefly, and returns too polluted. What if it became the starting point of urban design instead? 💧

We are proud to announce the official publication of "Water-oriented Design: Principles and Practices in the Asian Context" — published by Springer Nature under the Sustainable Urban Design series and co-authored by LWK + PARTNERS Research & Innovation team.

Eight of eleven Greater Bay Area cities sit below the World Bank water poverty line — yet they are among the fastest-building places on Earth. This book addresses this core contradiction through four practical questions:

1⃣️ Which model fits this site? Comparing Sponge City, ABC Waters, WSUD, and LID by climate and approval regime.

2️⃣ How does drainage earn land back? Treating blue-green infrastructure as a land-efficiency instrument.

3️⃣ What draws people to the waterfront? How human-centric water design generates footfall and civic value.

4️⃣ How do these decisions add up? Watershed-scale solutions for sea-level rise and resilience.

Nineteen case studies across Asia ground the framework — including seven from LWK + PARTNERS (such as Hong Kong East Coast Waterfront Promenade Design, Foshan Zhouweiwei Wetland Ecological Restoration Project, and The Zhongshan OCT Harbour City).

Water-led design is not a sustainability line item. It is the part of the brief that decides whether a scheme is approvable, buildable, and future-proofed. Designing the practice for what comes next.

Designing the practice for what comes next.

The most consequential changes inside a design practice do not always arrive as a new building, destination or competition win.

Sometimes they begin by redesigning the practice itself.

After eight years of working across the Middle East, LWK + PARTNERS is entering its next chapter with a restructured regional leadership team centred on our MENA headquarters in Dubai and creatively connected to our Shenzhen studio.

Led by Managing Director Kerem Cengiz, the new leadership cadre brings creative direction, architecture, digital design and technical delivery into one senior conversation:

Mithun Varghese — Director of Architecture

Marcos Rosello — Creative Director

Tony Yau — Design Director, based in Shenzhen

Micael Naguib — Associate Director, Head of Digital Design

Ann Thomas — Associate Director, Architecture

Rashmi Suryanarayanan — Associate Director, Head of Technical Design

This is not about creating more hierarchy. It is about creating more presence: bringing senior expertise closer to our people, our clients, our projects and the decisions that shape them.

It means clearer responsibility, stronger creative dialogue and fewer gaps between the first sketch, the client conversation and the coordinated, buildable design.

Across the Middle East—and particularly the GCC—clients increasingly expect cultural intelligence, commercial clarity and technical certainty without sacrificing design distinction.

Our new leadership structure has been shaped around that reality.

We congratulate Mithun, Marcos, Tony, Micael, Ann and Rashmi on their new roles and on the expertise, judgement and generosity of leadership they bring to the next chapter of LWK + PARTNERS.

When talented people step forward, responsibility becomes clearer—and the work begins to change.

🏆 We are honoured to receive an Honourable Mention in the Built | Masterplanning & Urban Design category at the 2026 WLA Awards!

There's something special about a place that becomes part of your daily rhythm—morning jogs with the sea breeze, sunset strolls with harbour views, weekend family picnics on cascading steps, and spontaneous catch-ups with friends under the open sky. This is everyday life at the East Coast Boardwalk.

Guided by the concept of "City Waves," we transformed forgotten space beneath the Island Eastern Corridor into a multi-functional public realm that connects Hong Kong's eastern waterfront and brings people closer to the harbour. Here, the community walks, runs, cycles, gathers, and simply breathes—embracing a healthier, more connected way of living by the water.

This recognition belongs to every person who has made this waterfront their own—the families, the runners, the dreamers, and the everyday wanderers. Thank you for filling this space with life, laughter, and connection. 🌊

It was wonderful to be part of the ground breaking ceremony for this innovative new development – a significant milestone for the project. 🏗️

Rising above the active Tung Chung MTR traction substation – LWK + PARTNERS is behind Hong Kong's tallest Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) residential towers, reaching 44 storeys and 188 metres in height.

With nearly 2,000 homes in the pipeline, the design centres on a multi-level podium that spans the high-voltage MTR facilities below via a 40-metre structural transfer mechanism – seamlessly integrating premium resident amenities, lush landscaped gardens, and vibrant community spaces while respecting the critical transit lines underneath. It's engineering meets community, all layered above active transit infrastructure.

Turning complex site challenges into an opportunity for elevated, transit-oriented living, this project is a testament to innovative engineering – and excited to see it taking shape in one of Hong Kong's most dynamic growth corridors.
Onwards and upwards! 🚀

Turning forgotten city spaces into community gems – that's what the East Coast Boardwalk is all about. ✨

And we're absolutely chuffed to share that the project has been awarded "Highly Commended" at the CIHT Awards 2026 under the Creating Better Places category! 🏆

By transforming 2.2km of underutilised space beneath a live viaduct into a vibrant, inclusive public realm, this project demonstrates how sustainable design can thrive in even the densest urban environments, and this recognition highlights Hong Kong's world-class capabilities in urban regeneration on the global stage.

It's a genuine honour to be among the few Asian projects recognised – a proud marker of our commitment to designing places that are not only functional, but truly serve the people and communities who use them.

Huge shoutout to our amazing LWK + PARTNERS team, partners, and the community for bringing this vision to life. 🙌

🏆 Honoured to be named among the Top Ten Architects 2026 at the Hubexo Asia Awards of this year!

It was an honour to attend the Hubexo Asia Awards Hong Kong, gathering alongside the city's most influential developers, architects, and design professionals to celebrate excellence in the built environment. Celebrating excellence in the built environment, the event was a meaningful reminder of how shared ambition, craft, and innovation continue to elevate Hong Kong’s design and construction landscape.
