Sometimes climate adaptation begins with simple actions:
removing asphalt, restoring soil, planting trees, and allowing water to remain in the landscape.
The Garden Brewery project was not designed around appearance. It was designed around performance.
The landscape combines four interconnected systems:
→ Tree canopy for shade
→ Vegetation for evapotranspiration
→ Permeable surfaces for infiltration
→ Water retention for continuous soil moisture
Together, these strategies form a passive cooling system without mechanical infrastructure or energy-intensive technologies.
Thermal measurements recorded a surface temperature difference of 29.1°C between
adjacent asphalt and the permeable landscape within the site.
As cities continue to experience rising temperatures, landscape architecture has an increasingly important role to play in shaping urban resilience.
