TWO NOTEBOOKS, TWO LANDSCAPES

Over the years, Filburg has translated two of our architectural stories into notebooks created as gifts for our clients and collaborators.

The first takes inspiration from the island of Hvar, its topography, contours, maps, and the collection of projects that have shaped our work across the island.

The second draws from the ancient grid of Starogradsko polje and our Hommage to a Grid project for Ploča Square. The same geometry that defines the agricultural landscape and inspired the square becomes a graphic pattern, carrying the idea from the land into a tactile everyday object.

Two notebooks, two different stories, connected by the same idea: architecture does not always have to remain within the boundaries of a building. Sometimes it can become something to hold, use, and carry with you.

A SIGN OF PLACE

Every studio deserves a sign that reflects its identity. For ours, we wanted something quiet, timeless, and honest to the materials that surround us.
Crafted from thick steel and finished in our signature blue, the new Morpharos sign now finds its place within the historic stone streets of Stari Grad. Its robust materiality creates a subtle dialogue with the centuries-old masonry. Clean geometry introduces a contemporary layer.

The visual identity and sign design were developed in collaboration with , while the craftsmanship and metal fabrication were expertly executed by
A small intervention, but one that marks the place where our ideas begin.

CELEBRATING ALVARO SIZA

A master of contemporary architecture turned 93. Siza's work is a constant inspiration in our understanding of Mediterranean space, light, and materiality. His work reminds us that simplicity is never simple, that the most timeless architecture is often the result of extraordinary restraint, precision, and sensitivity to place. Today we're sharing a few memories from our visits to some of his remarkable works, which continue to shape the way we think about architecture and the Mediterranean landscape.

CANOPY FOR PLAY

What began as a simple wooden structure is now finding its life through everyday use. Children move freely around it, gathering in the shade, turning the sandpit into a place of play, and the pavilion into a stage for small, spontaneous moments.

Without corners, the space remains open and undefined — allowing each day to shape its own use. Light filters through the sail above, casting soft shadows that shift with time, creating a calm and ever-changing atmosphere.

It is in these small interactions that the project reveals its intention — not as a fixed object, but as a framework for play, learning, and imagination.

CANOPY FOR PLAY

Designed for the youngest members of our community, this small pavilion introduces a quiet architectural presence within the kindergarten playground. Conceived as a place for play, gathering, and imagination, it shelters a sandpit while also becoming a stage for storytelling, small concerts, readings, and everyday moments of learning.

The structure is crafted entirely from wood, embracing natural materials and a warm tactile character. Its contemporary structural logic shifts the columns toward the center, leaving the corners open and allowing the space to flow freely toward the surrounding playground.

Above the structure, an earth-toned sail shade provides gentle protection from the sun while maintaining a light and airy character. The result is a small architectural gesture — a place for play, learning, and imagination under a soft canopy of shade.
