In Part I, we explored the challenge: creating a completely open skylight between two independent structures in a high-seismic zone.
The solution wasn't to force the two structures to behave as one. Instead, they were carefully engineered to work in harmony, controlling displacement while preserving the uninterrupted opening. This approach allowed the glass to bridge the two structures without becoming the element that resisted their movement. Achieving that balance required close collaboration with .one, where architecture and structural engineering evolved together through countless iterations and carefully resolved details. The cleanest architectural moments are often supported by the most complex engineering—proof that great design is always a collaborative achievement.
This August, we'll also be exhibiting the Elysium bamboo scale model at .curated 2026, from 13–17 August—offering a closer look at the structural thinking behind the project.
