Begawan Biji is the kind of project we love being part of.

When a restaurant takes sustainability seriously, it goes beyond choosing a responsible material. It means thinking about the impact of the entire project — and making decisions accordingly.

For the outdoor spaces at Begawan Biji, reclaimed ironwood decking became part of that approach. Timber with a previous life, given another one in a setting designed around nature.

We were especially happy to see Eco Mantra involved in the project. Their sustainability engineering brings the numbers and methodology behind the intentions, helping projects understand and evaluate their environmental impact.

Eco Mantra was also one of our trusted partners for the Second Growth pavilion at JIA Curated 2026, where they carried out the pavilion’s CO₂ evaluation.

Different projects, same principle: sustainability is strongest when it is built into the decisions from the start.

When a truck leaves Kaltimber looking like this, you know it’s been a productive week.

A full load of reclaimed ironwood decking is heading to Jepara, ready for its next project. Thousands of boards, carefully processed and stacked, making their way out of the factory before the weekend.

Not a bad way to wrap up the week.

Of the many spaces that made up JIA Curated 2026, Second Growth was one of the spaces Des Res Bali kept going back to.

Designed by Alexis Dornier with Kaltimber, the pavilion explored how reclaimed timber could shape an architecture that felt less like an object placed in the landscape and more like an extension of it — open, layered and constantly changing with its surroundings.

We’re very happy to see Second Growth included in Des Res Bali’s reflections on the spaces that stayed with them throughout the event.

Some places ask you to stop for a moment. This one quietly convinced people to stay.

Second Growth was never about building another pavilion. It was about giving reclaimed materials another chance to shape meaningful spaces. Reclaimed ironwood by Kaltimber and Naturanexa, reclaimed teak and Bangkirai by Kitaru, brought together under 's vision to create a space where architecture and nature could breathe together.

Five days later, these moments are what remain.

Five days at JIA Curated 2026 reminded us what reclaimed wood can become.

Now we're back where it all begins.

Behind every finished table, wall, deck, and beam is the real work—removing old nails by hand, sorting every reclaimed ironwood timber, and giving each piece a second life.

This is where Kaltimber has always belonged. Turning forgotten wood into materials that are built to last all over again.

5 days of events wrapping up.

There's that special feeling when you know you've done it. It's over. But you don't want to let it go because it's been months of design and effort to make it happen.

Then you gather together and feel proud of what you've accomplished because of the amazing feedback you've received from visitors.

Everyone involved in the Second Growth pavilion has been incredible, and it's very hard to say goodbye.

But because we're Kaltimber, giving a new story to everything we touch, we know the friendships we built will transform into something else.
