We are currently working on a biodiversity plan for a live project, looking at how the site can better support wildlife while working around existing trees and site constraints.

A biodiversity plan is not about adding plants for the sake of it. It starts with understanding what is already there. Trees, soils, light levels, existing habitats and how the site is used.

Done properly, biodiversity planning is about enhancing a site without compromising tree health or future use.

More to follow on why this matters and what biodiversity looks like in practice.

A day on site today carrying out a tree health and condition assessment, working alongside O’Donnell Environmental Ltd.

Work like this highlights the value of continued learning, especially when assessments require care, experience and close collaboration with other professionals, particularly on sites of historic and cultural importance.

Thanks to O’Donnell Environmental for the opportunity to be involved. If you’re looking for ecological support on a project, they’re a great team to work with.

The last few months have been busy on site and at the desk, and balancing work with study hasn’t always been easy. Still, it has been worth every late evening.

Paul recently completed the two year Accredited Training Programme in Urban Tree Management with , and it feels like a good moment to pause and recognise how much learning has taken place over the past two years.

The certificate is a milestone, but the real value is in the knowledge gained and how it helps us support clients with clearer, stronger guidance.

Thank you to Tree Life for their teaching and high standards.

During Storm Amy we carried out a root stability test on a mature Austrian pine in Galway.

This tree had visible root damage from previous construction works, raising concerns about its stability following the over turning of several neighbouring trees.

During the test, maximum wind speed recorded was 146 km/h (Beaufort Force 12).
The test records stem base movements to 0.001 degree.
Thankfully for this tree, the movements recorded were well above the minimum safe threshold of 1.5degree movement. We can confidently recommend the retention of this tree in its current state as the root stability is excellent.

The DynaRoot system measures how a tree moves under real wind loads, revealing if its anchorage is compromised, something no visual inspection can confirm.

🎥 Watch as we put the equipment to the test during Storm Amy.

If your trees have been disturbed by construction, ground works or recent storms, a root stability test can give you confidence in making data backed management decisions. Contact us for more details [email protected]

Paul really enjoyed attending the Ireland Branch’s “Veteran Tree Management: Knowledge Day” at Oldbridge House in Drogheda yesterday.

It was a great opportunity to learn from speakers James Chambers, Dr John Devaney, Cormac Downey and Simon Richmond, connect with peers, and meet new members. Events like this don’t happen often in Ireland, so when they do, it’s always worth taking the time to attend and share experiences within the arboricultural community.

A huge thank you to the clients who’ve trusted us over the past few weeks to help assess trees in complex environments.

It’s great to hear that our equipment and expertise are helping local councils and project teams uncover what’s not visible to the eye. Giving them the confidence to make informed, responsible decisions.

If you need our specialised tools like DynaRoot and Arborsonic 3D Tomograph, we’re ready to assist.
