🔹 Cersaie 2025 🔹

We were delighted to attend the 42nd edition of Cersaie, a global showcase of innovation in surfaces, bathroom furnishings, and architectural finishes.

Thanks to an invitation from Medelhan, the Milan-based design collaboration platform, we joined industry leaders to explore the latest trends and technologies shaping the future of interior design. Special thanks to Radhika Sharma and Roberto Cuneo for the opportunity and warm welcome.

Together with Ivan McCarthy from KPH, our long-time collaborators, we explored everything from high-end ceramics to advanced screening systems, paving technologies, and door innovations. all through both a design and contractor lens.

A highlight was visiting the NovaBell tile factory in Sassuolo, whose products we’ve proudly used in our recent private residential project Seal Rock.

We return inspired, energised, and excited to bring fresh ideas into our upcoming work.

Proud to be part of a festival that connects artists, audiences, and our city.

Meitheal Architects is honoured to sponsor Sounds from a Safe Harbour, celebrating the festival’s unique role in bringing together Irish and international talent in Cork City.

Just as Sounds from a Safe Harbour thrives on collaboration, innovation, and the sharing of ideas, Meitheal’s ethos of “building together” reflects the same spirit of community and creativity. With collaboration and excellence at the core of both, this partnership is a natural fit, and Meitheal are delighted to support an event that elevates Irish art and practice while connecting it to a global stage.

The biennial festival was founded and directed by Mary Hickson, and boasts a stellar team of curators with Cillian Murphy, Bryce Dessner of The National, writer Max Porter, and folklorist Billy MagFhloinn.

Celebrating a decade since its inception, SFSH will be running from the 11th to the 14th of September in Cork City.

See you there!

Meitheal Architects are delighted to partner with local universities to host undergraduate students seeking professional experience.

This summer, after partaking in a work placement with us during the academic year, Olivia and Jack from Munster Technological University have returned to Meitheal for paid internships. The two are working closely with Meitheal mentors to gain exposure to the professional process and enrich their studies.

Olivia, who has finished her Level 7 Bachelor of Science in Architectural Technology, has been working on a broad range of projects, focusing particularly on the residential sector and exploring the practical elements of the architectural process.

Jack, having completed his Level 7 Bachelor of Science in Interior Architecture, has worked closely with our interiors team on hospitality and commercial projects developing a strong understanding of how to deliver high-quality interior spaces.

Our programme of returning student placements has yielded university graduates with holistic professional experience, some of whom return to work with Meitheal after completing their studies. We look forward to a fruitful and engaging summer for Olivia and Jack, and to welcoming more students into our offices in the upcoming academic year.

Meitheal Architects are delighted to share that planning permission has been approved by An Coimisiún Pleanála for a 164-unit Large-Scale Residential Development on a previously undeveloped greenfield site in Ardarostig, Bishopstown, Cork, in partnership with Dwellings Developments. The homes are a mix of 1, 2 & 3 bedroom residential units, utilising the best practices espoused in the Compact Sustainable Growth Guidelines to achieve a nett density of >45 homes per hectare. A creche and designated play space will also serve the community.

Meitheal Architects’ Managing Director Patrick O Toole is delighted to see the impact that new national policy and guidance is having on supporting the work of the local authorities and An Coimisiún Pleanála to pursue higher, more sustainable urban residential densities.

The site lies on Waterfall Road, 2km from Wilton and connected to public transport routes and the local active travel network. The development will avail of the proximity to primary and secondary schools, the MTU campus, and local Bishopstown services and amenities.

The site is divided into homezones by primary and secondary circulation routes, with pocket parks linking distinct residential areas. A connective layer of canopy vegetation, grassed terraces, and plaza areas forefront biodiversity, and a sustainable approach to development integrates the built environment with the existing contours of the site's complex sloping topography, while respecting the urban form of adjacent developments.

Planning has been approved for a 101-home large-scale residential development in Athlunkard, Corbally, Limerick, Co. Clare. The scheme, to be completed with our project partners, KPH Construction, features 49 no. 3-bed houses and 52 no. 1 and 2 bed apartments, designed to suit a variety of living arrangements, individuals and large families alike.

Located just 2.5km from Limerick city centre, the site is also well connected with easy access to major roads and bus routes, linking with Co. Clare. The nearby Westbury Shopping Centre provides a variety of employment, educational, and leisure amenities.

The responsive built form of the site serves as a natural extension of this surrounding urban area, and the sloping layout works to preserve existing contours to ensure minimal landscape intervention.

From the outset of the design process, sustainability, convenience, and community have been prioritised, with pockets of development home-zones providing distinct public and private character areas while maintaining efficient movement and pedestrian connectivity.

Having opened in November 2024, the Fork and Wheel was a ground-up refurbishment of the Two Mile Inn, a well-established local bar and restaurant that had been closed since Covid-19. Our clients, the Cliste Group, required a full-service team to provide feasibility, planning, interiors, construction as well as FSC/DAC, assigned certifier and PSDP services to re-imagine this local gem on a budget. Meitheal Architects provided the full suite of services, with Horizon Engineers and MMOS Engineers completing the design team. We partnered with contractors Rose Construction, who delivered the project in a very tight programme.

The surrounding farmland inspired the rustic but intimate and comfortable interior that provides the clients with a full operational switch between shifts from carvery to a full-service à la carte in the evenings. Clever use of partitions and curtains allow a simple changeover for staff. The existing bar was maintained and mildly upgraded to keep the original character. Built-in furniture, joinery, upholstery and wall coverings all work with new lighting, skylights, and ceiling coffers to provide an intimate but contemporary dining experience that our clients are thrilled with.

A new café and outdoor areas were introduced, along with an entry that re-aligns the customer experience from the new carpark, all taking in the existing mature landscape and adjacent stream.
