🚢 Proud to be part of the team on the new cruise berth at Belfast Harbour

Work is now fully underway on Belfast Harbour’s largest-ever capital investment — a new £90m deep water quay built to welcome some of the world’s largest cruise vessels, with main contractor GRAHAM Group leading the build.

NVM is providing the noise and vibration monitoring for the works, helping the project team keep a close eye on environmental impact as construction progresses.

🍃This week marks National Biodiversity Week 2026 and it is a good moment to talk about the quiet infrastructure behind nature protection: data

Waterways Ireland manages over 1,000 km of inland navigable waterways — the Barrow Navigation, Erne System, Grand Canal, Lower Bann, Royal Canal, Shannon Navigation, Shannon–Erne Waterway and Ulster Canal — and protects them as ecological corridors within its Heritage & Biodiversity Plan 2030.

🌊 These systems support coarse fisheries, reed and pondweed habitats, amphibians, damselflies, and the sedge warblers that breed along their margins.

🌊 From the west coast to sites across the country, the NVM team have been out commissioning and installing monitoring equipment this week — including a new solar monitoring system in Galway and instrumentation work on projects further afield.

Different sites, same principle: reliable data from day one.

Whether it’s solar performance, vibration, settlement or groundwater, the instrumentation going in now is what underpins the decisions made across the lifetime of each project.

🚧 Among other jobs, the NVM team were on site this week supporting one of Ireland’s major road infrastructure programmes.

Our engineers were out commissioning monitoring instrumentation — the groundwork that keeps complex civil projects compliant and built on reliable data.

Behind every major construction programme is a less visible layer of measurement: vibration, settlement, groundwater and environmental conditions tracked from day one. Getting that layer right is what allows the visible work to proceed with confidence.
