Alarm panel battery

Don’t ignore the warning. The panel battery keeps the alarm system running during a power cut so it’s essential it’s in good condition.

This is something you can manage yourself maintenance wise

- Locate your alarm panel. (This is the Brain of the alarm - Not to be confused with the keypad) Usually in a utility room, hall press or attic.

- Open the panel cover You will need a screwdriver and some systems will beep when the panel lid is opened

- Identify the battery. It’s typically a large sealed battery with 2 leads (red & black)

- Disconnect carefully Remove the leads Red first then black

- Insert the new battery. Again red first then black

- Close the panel lid. Make sure it’s flush and secure

- return to the keypad and enter your code

These batteries usually last 5-7 years but of course that depends on the amount of power outages you have had.

If yours hasn’t been changed in a while it’s worth checking.

We stock these panel batteries on our office on the Main Street of Dunshaughlin so you can drop in and pick one up when needed.

If you would rather not open the panel yourself get in contact and I will organise a callout. Happy to help

Wireless alarm battery change - quick guide

A lot of call-outs we attend are simply due to low batteries in wireless alarm devises but this is something you can easily manage yourself

Here is a simple guide

- Identify the device- this could be the window/door contact or a PIR motion sensor or a key fob. If you have the HKC app - go to the log and see what devise is reporting the low battery

- Open the casing carefully - most will have a small cap or screw

- Remove the old battery - take note of the battery type and how it’s fitted

- Insert the new battery match the + and - correctly

- Close the devise secure. Make sure it’s flush and clicks shut properly

- Return to the keypad and make sure everything is working as it should

Don’t ignore low battery warnings

We stock a range of alarm batteries in our office in the Main Street of Dunshaughlin so you can call in and pick up what you need.

If you are unsure or would prefer us to handle it just get in touch and we will organise a callout.

Always happy to help

After Christmas, the key security tip for rubbish is to shred or break down boxes for expensive gifts (like TVs, game consoles) and dispose of them in bags, rather than leaving large, branded boxes visible outside your house in the bin, to prevent burglars from knowing what valuables you have. Also, conceal address labels, shred documents, and don't put electronics (lights, toys) in regular bins; take them to WEEE recycling points.
