Have you noticed your radiators aren’t heating up? Maybe you can feel some cold spots? Or perhaps you have a room that never seems to get warm in the evenings? It can be frustrating trying to work out why your central heating isn’t working as it should, but there are a couple of simple reasons why it could be happening.

Radiators work overtime, and eventually, like the rest of us, they get tired. Over time, they can become sluggish and slow, and in turn less efficient and less cost-effective. We look at some of the most common solutions to this problem.

If your boiler’s still working, and the simple fixes aren’t solving your problem, it’s possible your central heating system might need to be Power Flushed.

If you have a heating system whereas you cannot control your heating and hot water independently we have a solution.
We can install smart thermostats to up to 16 radiators and hot water cylinder.
This gives you the option of closing all radiators remotely and operate the hot water in the summer of the main heat source being oil or gas boiler.

The Grant Vortex Pro with a 10 year warranty and HVO compatibility is the way to go when signed of by OFTEC technicians. With all boiler replacements banned mid 2025 it’s worth thinking about if your boiler is over 15-20 years old.
HVO fuel is currently being trialled in the UK and Ireland as an alternative to kerosene. It can reduce carbon emissions by 88% compared to standard kerosene. It will definitely be introduced and these boilers can be converted for HVO operation with a few minor alterations to the boiler, burner and system.
The oil heating industry are trying to get the government to push the use of HVO fuel through so it’s likely it will be on the way in the near future.
