A massive shoutout to every kitchen crew flat out across the country in this glorious weather! 🍻

While half the country is out enjoying a cold one in the sunshine, we know the real heat is in the kitchens. Plate after plate, wash-up after wash-up—it is brilliant to see local spots absolutely flying, but it is a serious test of endurance for your drainage system.

When a kitchen is under pressure, the grease trap is too. With this heat, fats and oils don't cool down and settle inside the trap the way they normally do. Instead, they sneak right past the system in liquid form and head straight into your main pipes, cooling down further down the line to create a major headache.

🏁 What a day! 🏎️💨
We had a great turnout for our CD Environmental summer staff day out, and it’s safe to say the competitive spirit was at an all-time high.

When it came to choosing something that suited our troops, go-karting was the perfect fit. Turns out, we have a few secret Formula 1 drivers among us! The best part? Nobody was worrying about speeding points today! 😂

After tearing up the track, we headed off for some dinner to wind down and catch up properly.

Thanks a mill to everyone who came along. We have a brilliant team here, and it was just easy company to have a laugh and relax together outside of work.

☀️ Hot Weather & Your Septic Tank: Why the Sunshine Brings a Sharp Rise in Calls! ☀️

We are absolutely loving this gorgeous hot weather, but behind the scenes at our office, it has kicked off a very busy trend. We’ve noticed a sharp increase in calls from domestic customers looking to get their septic tanks cleaned and emptied.

Now, this might surprise you. What does a spell of beautiful sunshine have to do with your wastewater system? 🤔

It actually comes down to two very simple reasons:

1. You’re spending more time in the garden! 🏡🌷
During the cooler months, we rush from the car straight into the house. But when the sun comes out, we’re out mowing the lawn, tending to the flowerbeds, and having friends and family over for summer BBQs. Because you are physically spending hours right next to your soakaway or tank area, you are suddenly much more likely to notice those subtle, telltale odours.

2. The heat accelerates the "pong" 🌡️💨
There is a bit of science to it, too! The natural, good bacteria inside your septic tank work hard all year round to break down waste. However, when the ground warms up, that biological process speeds up dramatically. This rapid breakdown produces a sudden buildup of gases (like hydrogen sulphide). The hot, stagnant summer air can trap these odours close to the ground rather than letting them vent away naturally—meaning that "rotten egg" smell becomes impossible to ignore.

Add in the extra load on the system from summer visitors or teenagers home from school, and an already full tank will quickly let you know it’s time for a service!
