Blackbirds like to sunbathe......
.....by holding still with their beak slightly open to keep themselves cool, a bit like panting. It helps regulate their body temperature in warm weather.

It is important to leave out a shallow dish of water so our garden birds can cool down and keep hydrated.

There are very few things cuter than watching a bird have a bath. Maybe a hen dust bathing tops it.

Soak up the sun all.

My rescue hens ❤️

I'm so happy to add these little pets to our home. But admittedly I found it heartbreaking when I first saw them. It is so hard to believe that they are allowed to be kept in this condition.

It is my mission to give these girls a good life here. I will slowly introduce them to my current brood.

I took these videos 2 days ago and the difference in their temperament since has been huge and amazing to see.

Last night I moved them into a coop next to my current coop, so both broods can observe and get familiar with each other, but not have access to each other yet.

Did you ever notice the spit on plants?

This is called ‘cuckoo spit’ — a foamy shelter made by juvenile spittlebugs. 

The foam protects it from predators, keeps it moist, and stops it from overheating while it grows. 

It is the cutest spit I've ever seen. 

Nature is wild and wonderful.
