Apprentice Carpenter Wanted – Kilgarvan, Co. Kerry

We are currently seeking a motivated and reliable Apprentice Carpenter to join our team based in Kilgarvan, Co. Kerry.

What we’re looking for:
• Genuine interest in carpentry and construction
• Willingness to learn and take direction
• Good work ethic and punctuality
• Ability to work as part of a team
• Safe Pass and Manual Handling (preferred but not essential)
What you’ll gain:
• Hands-on experience across a range of carpentry projects
• Mentorship from experienced tradespeople
• Opportunity to develop skills and progress within the trade
Duties will include:
• Assisting with general carpentry tasks
• Site preparation and clean-up
• Supporting qualified carpenters on projects
• Learning to use tools and equipment safely

Location: Kilgarvan, Co. Kerry

RTÉ’s Heat My Home series is yet another depressing, publicly-funded showcase of built heritage destruction, last night charting the massacre of a fine early Victorian terraced house in Dublin 8. Everything from the massive front doorcase and delicately leaded fanlight, to internal shutterboxes and joinery, was thrown on the skip in the name of sustainability – even an original carved chimneypiece was removed. As for the inevitable Monster Joinery crew, they practically demolished the historic stairs hauling a suite of their archetypal clunky sash windows up through the house, one fitted onto a decayed timber window head.

Unbelievably, the series is sponsored by the State body SEAI which is currently running a Traditional Homes Retrofit Pilot to promote best practice thermal upgrade of historic buildings! You couldn’t make this up. What a waste of public funds. Programmes like these knock back years of slow progress in public understanding of conservation practices. SEAI needs a serious recheck of its funding priorities.
