🌾 Harvest 🌾

I hadn't been to the plot since last month and everything was totally overgrown. Thanks to Dad for strimming down the grass so I could see where the beds were again! 🌱

Ever grateful to live in the most beautiful of places, North West . My plot is on the , a must-see if you're ever up this part of the world!

Today I pulled up the last of my early spuds, Sharpe Express. Absolutely delicious, we appreciate every bite πŸ‘Œ

I harvest little bowls like this one from the garden every day. Today its broad beans, baby beans, onion and garlic chives. So thankful to have fresh homegrown produce to enjoy daily πŸ™Œ

What are you grateful for today?

How to get even more potatoes:

Hello Spuds! πŸ‘‹ I spent today earthing up my potatoes on the plot. New potatoes grow from the stem of the plant. So the more stem that is covered with soil, the more potatoes will come from each plant. This is known as earthing up potatoes. As you pull the earth around the plants, it creates a trench on either side. This works especially well for main crop spuds as they have the longest growing time.

Earthing up also ensures that no sunlight reaches the growing potatoes, as exposure to sunlight is what turns spuds green.

I have lightly mulched with the first cut of our lawn and I'll add more mulch next week. Mulch means to cover the soil with a layer of organic matter, which keeps moisture levels up and temperature levels down in the soil. I've found the perfect mulch for potatoes is straw!

If you are growing spuds in containers, fill the containers right to the top with straw for the best results!

Do you earth up or mulch your potatoes?

I'm also loving the red fushcia, yellow buttercups and purple chive flowers, bringing bright pops of colour to the plot this week 😊

R A D I S H ! πŸ’œ
Today I started to harvest the first of my bolted, self seeded and over wintered Radish, these grew from pure neglect! πŸ˜„ Their vibrant colours of purples, reds, pinks and yellows are just beautiful 😍 Radish have a bot of a peppery kick and make the perfect addition to my summer salads! β˜€οΈ

Did you know?

Radish are a great source of vitamin C, potassium, folate, fibre, and contain antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties? Isn't nature wonderful!
