Craftstudio are a young, vibrant and innovative design practice. We are driven by the desire to create high quality contemporary architecture. The practice engages in a design process that evolves directly from our client’s aspirations and requirements and the unique context and specific constraints involved with each site. Our approach is based on understanding the complexitie

s of each site and the relationship between the building, the landscape and its surroundings. Our projects place a strong emphasis on how people interact with buildings and space. We believe in creating buildings that inspire their occupants, exposing their potential through material, light and relationship with context. Craftstudio use a wide range of techniques to investigate and communicate our ideas. This approach is critical to the engagement of our clients in the design process.

A proud moment for Craftstudio Architecture last Thursday as Minister for Rural & Community Development Dara Calleary TD officially opened the new Killykeen Bridge. The bridge, delivered on behalf of Cavan County Council, was conceived as more than a crossing, conceived as a a sculptural focal point within the stunning lakeland landscape of Lough Oughter. Constructed in locally sourced Irish larch, the undulating sides rise and fall as you cross, framing elevated views over the lakes and inviting you to pause and take in the beauty of this special place. Designed for walkers, cyclists and users with accessibility needs, it connects Killykeen Forest Park to the Gartanoul Loop and Killeshandra.

We would like to wish everyone a Happy Christmas and New Year. Thank you to all our team and to collaborators, consultants, contractors and clients for their support throughout the year, we look forward to 2026.

We were fortunate to finish our year with a study trip to London, the perfect mix of architecture, wandering, and a lot of good food. The standout moment was definitely our visit to Appleby Blue Almshouse, this year’s Stirling Prize winner. Hearing from Alison Benzimra, the client who basically willed the project into existence, gave us a whole new appreciation for how thoughtful, humane housing can be, when someone truly fights for it. The building had such a calm, dignified atmosphere, beautiful shared spaces, generous homes, and a real sense of community. It set the tone for everything else we saw.

We spent the rest of the trip bouncing between some incredible housing projects across Elephant & Castle, Hackney Wick and Fish Island - dRMM, Haworth Tompkins, AHMM, Al-Jawad Pike and Karakusevic Carson all putting forward very different ideas about density, materials and liveability. From big regeneration schemes to quiet backstreet infill, there was loads to take in (and loads we’ll be arguing about back in the office).

To conclude, we visited the King’s Cross regeneration area and the East Bank redevelopment in the Olympic Park, including the new V&A East and Sadler’s Wells Dance Theatre designed by O’Donnell + Tuomey.

Between tours, we also got plenty of time to hang out as a team, long walks, questionable navigation choices and excellent dining. Overall, a brilliant few days; inspiring projects, great company, and lots of ideas to bring home.

The scheme comprises two storey homes and mixed tenure, own door apartment across a steeply sloping site. We have been working in collaboration with the Housing Team in Monaghan County Council over the past number of months on the project and look forward to the project being realized in 2026.
