Kelbuild is delighted to announce that we have been awarded the contract for the emergency repair works at the Iveagh Markets.

This is one of Dublin’s most significant and historic buildings, and we are honoured to play a role in stabilising and protecting it after decades of deterioration. Safeguarding a structure of this scale and heritage importance is a privilege and a challenge we welcome.

We now look forward to working collaboratively with Dublin City Council, Conservation Architects Howley Hayes Cooney, CORA Engineering, and Austin Reddy Quantity Surveyors as we prepare to undertake these essential works.

This building is a major piece of Dublin’s history, and we’re proud to be part of the team to help restore it. More updates to follow as the project progresses.

Last week, we were delighted to welcome OPW Graduate Architects to the Magazine Fort in the Phoenix Park for an engaging, hands-on day exploring conservation craft skills and traditional materials.

As part of a STEM in Construction & Conservation Craft outreach initiative, in collaboration with the OPW, the event offered a unique opportunity to observe and discuss traditional techniques on-site with specialist tradespeople—including Crannog Roofing, Lambstongue and Nolan’s Group.

From traditional masonry, wigging, and lime plasterwork to timber conservation, lead bossing, and heritage roofing methods, the day showcased a wide range of conservation practices. With Conservation Architects from the OPW on hand, participants gained valuable insight into how design decisions translate into practical restoration work—highlighting both the challenges and rewards of preserving historic sites such as the Magazine Fort.

One of the many key focuses of the visit was the full reconstruction of the Duke of Dorset Gate, currently underway. The complexity of such a project demands exceptional craftsmanship, deep technical knowledge, and a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach.
