Hi everyone. This post is a bit off-topic, but I thought it was interesting.
I tested a Contigo travel mug from Amazon. The manufacturer claims it keeps drinks hot for up to 6 hours and cold for up to 12 hours.
However, using a professional thermal camera, I found that a significant amount of heat is lost through the lid, which is made from a single layer of plastic. The hottest spot on the lid reached around 71°C. That's also the area you drink from, and it's actually uncomfortable because it gets hot enough to burn your lips.
For that reason, I wouldn't recommend this travel mug.

27°C in the shade — what a wonderful summer! Hot, sunny, and thankfully there’s a nice cool breeze outside. Meanwhile, work goes on… and of course, this is the perfect weather for installing a ventilation system in the attic. 😅🔥

Bathroom renovation project completed 🚿🔧
This bathroom started with a full strip-out of all old materials. We removed the old walls and flooring completely to prepare the room for a modern upgrade with two new shower areas.
Because the shower zones were being recessed deeper into the floor and walls, we rebuilt the area using moisture-resistant plasterboard and tile backer boards to create a strong waterproof base for tiling.
Before closing the walls, we installed a completely new plumbing system using high-quality pipes and fittings. All pipework was pressure tested for reliability, and new drainage with shower wastes was fitted. The pipes were hidden neatly inside the walls for a clean modern finish.
A lot of work goes into a proper bathroom renovation before the tiles even go on — but good preparation is what makes the bathroom last for years. 🚿🛠️

Hi folks,
Came across an interesting setup at a client’s property and wanted to get some opinions.
It’s an Open vent system, but the arrangement on the hot outlet caught my attention.
A mixing/thermostatic valve has been installed directly on the outlet from the cylinder, and this same line appears to serve the vent path.
My concern is the following:
In an open vented system, the expansion path from the cylinder to the feed & expansion tank should be completely unobstructed and unrestricted.
Any component that may introduce resistance — such as a mixing valve — could potentially interfere with:
free expansion of heated water
proper venting of the system
pressure relief under certain conditions
Preferred approach (in my opinion):
I would normally install a tee directly off the cylinder outlet:
one branch going straight and unobstructed to the open vent
the second branch feeding the mixing valve / pump circuit
This way, the vent remains completely independent and unrestricted, as intended.
To be clear:
I’m not saying this setup will necessarily fail — many systems like this may operate without obvious issues.
However, from a best practice and safety perspective, I would personally avoid placing any restriction on the vent path.
Interested to hear your thoughts:
Would you consider this acceptable, or would you also prefer a dedicated, unrestricted vent connection?
