Today I received a phone call from a colleague looking for an interpreter for an event happening THIS Friday in a city which is about 600 km north of Munich (where I am based). In the end, it didn't work out because the client found someone more local to do the job. However, I don't regard this as "time wasted" (I had already looked through the reference material and searched for train tickets/flights), but rather as a turn of events which allowed me to connect with a colleague I previously didn't know (I was referred to her). What I want to say is that we should try to filter out the positive aspects in what first seems to be a waste of time or a failed opportunity: I am greateful that a colleague thought about recommending me and for being offered the chance to connect with someone I didn't know before.
