On a retrofit, attention to detail is everything - especially around windows and doors.

Two common problems we see from poor fitting are:

➡ Air leakage (draughts, cold spots, reduced comfort)
➡ Moisture pe*******on (water tracking into the structure over time)

Even a high-quality window won’t perform well if the sealing and finishing around the frame isn’t done properly.

If you’re planning new windows and wall insulation, the order matters.

In many retrofit projects, it’s best to do windows first, then insulate the walls.

Why?

Because it makes it easier to integrate the window properly with the insulated wall build-up - helping reduce weak points around the opening (where heat loss and water ingress can become issues if detailing is poor).

Last Friday, we had the pleasure of welcoming Minister for Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation Jack Chambers, TD Michael Murphy, and Senator Imelda Goldsboro to Leetherm HQ.

They dropped in to see how retrofit projects are managed behind the scenes - from customer enquiries and grant support to scheduling, coordination, and delivery on site.

We also shared feedback on how SEAI grants are helping homeowners take the next step with energy upgrades. It was great to have the opportunity to share what we’re seeing day-to-day across retrofit projects.
