Our new baler has officially roared into action at KMK Metals Recycling in Kilbeggan, ready to devour an impressive 260 tonnes of scrap metal every week! ♻️

A massive shoutout to the incredible team who made it happen. Joe Cleary led the way with the input and project support, supplied the monster machinery, CQEMS handled the heavy lifting, Gannon Concrete delivered the solid foundation blocks, and David Lamb worked wonders on the new concrete floor, getting it completed in just three days! 🏗️⚡

A huge team effort from start to finish, bringing this beast to life and ready for action! 🦾🔥

Be honest: how many mystery cables from 2018 are sitting in your “junk drawer” right now? 🔌👀

Today is International E-Waste Day, and the global e-waste community WEEE Forum is highlighting something called “Fast Tech”.

It’s not old fridges or laptops. It’s all the cheap, small stuff we buy on a whim and bin without a second thought:
•That tangled mess of charging cords
• The earphones where only one side works
• Cheap USB desk fans & novelty LED lights
• Power banks that don’t hold a charge anymore

The crazy part? 87% of us have this stuff lying around, and over a quarter of people just chuck it in the regular black bin. 🗑️😏

When you bin it, real materials like copper and lithium are lost forever in landfill (and hidden batteries can cause fires in bin lorries). 😳

The fix is super simple🧐🤌
If it has a plug, a battery, or a cable, you can recycle it for FREE anywhere at your local recycling centre or any electrical shop!

Don’t bin it, bring it! ♻️

To celebrate International E-Waste Day 2026, we’re launching the Fast Tech Challenge! 🔌♻️

We want to see how your team is making a difference when it comes to tackling e-waste.

📲 HOW TO ENTER:
1. Follow KMK Metals Recycling Ltd on social media.
2. Take a photo of yourself or your team:
• With e-waste you’ve collected (cables, old phones, chargers, laptops, anything with a plug or battery), OR
• While recycling e-waste at your nearest free e-waste drop-off point.
3. Post your photo on Instagram or Facebook, using , and tag KMK Metals Recycling Ltd (Stories with tags count too!).

A proud moment for Tullamore! ♻️

Huge congratulations to Sacred Heart School Tullamore on being recognised as one of the national winners in the WEEE Ireland | Recycling Schools Battery Recycling Competition.

Together, the students, teachers, parents and local community collected an incredible 2,108kg of used batteries 🤯An amazing achievement that shows what can happen when a community comes together for a great cause.💪

Well done to everyone at Sacred Heart School a fantastic achievement! 💙

We were a little short staffed today during the annual KMK Summer Party!

On his stag weekend, almost 8 years ago, Max decided to enlist the help of his father and friends to carry a 100kg bench made out of recycled plastic up Mount Brandon. He wanted to commemorate his grandfather Kurt Kyck Snr., who crash-landed onto the mountain during WW2 in 1940 and was a (very well-treated) POW in the Curragh camp for the remainder of the war; later returning to live in Ireland for most of his life.

Unfortunately, bad weather damaged the bench over the years and he had it mended twice but last winter word reached him that a particularly bad storm had wrecked it beyond repair.

With the help of Di**le Walking Club and the local Walks Development Group, Forbairt Cosáin Siúil, some volunteers, James, Richard and Micheál (O’Connors pub) were enlisted to help Max dismantle the bench and carry it down. Another volunteer, Jack has been carrying pieces down every time he passes on his hikes. Max’s 9-year-old son, Jonah Brandon was also a brilliant help and loved his first hike up Mount Brandon.

Thank you so much to the friends who carried the bench up in 2018 and the new friends who helped carry it down in 2026.

We will work with the locals of Cloghane to find another way to celebrate the story and keep the memory alive.
