We were a little short staffed today during the annual KMK Summer Party!

21/06/2026

On his stag weekend, almost 8 years ago, Max decided to enlist the help of his father and friends to carry a 100kg bench made out of recycled plastic up Mount Brandon. He wanted to commemorate his grandfather Kurt Kyck Snr., who crash-landed onto the mountain during WW2 in 1940 and was a (very well-treated) POW in the Curragh camp for the remainder of the war; later returning to live in Ireland for most of his life.

Unfortunately, bad weather damaged the bench over the years and he had it mended twice but last winter word reached him that a particularly bad storm had wrecked it beyond repair.

With the help of Di**le Walking Club and the local Walks Development Group, Forbairt Cosáin Siúil, some volunteers, James, Richard and Micheál (O’Connors pub) were enlisted to help Max dismantle the bench and carry it down. Another volunteer, Jack has been carrying pieces down every time he passes on his hikes. Max’s 9-year-old son, Jonah Brandon was also a brilliant help and loved his first hike up Mount Brandon.

Thank you so much to the friends who carried the bench up in 2018 and the new friends who helped carry it down in 2026.

We will work with the locals of Cloghane to find another way to celebrate the story and keep the memory alive.

This week is National Biodiversity Week, and we’ve been getting our hands a little dirty to support local wildlife and biodiversity at our Kilbeggan site. 🧤🪴

As part of the initiative, we’ve begun planting unused areas of our new car park with a native wildflower seed mix. The mix includes perennial and annual species such as red campion, wild carrot, self-heal, yellow rattle, and others designed to support pollinators like bees, butterflies, and hoverflies.🐝

These improvements will also benefit local birdlife, including robins, blue t**s, sparrows, goldfinches, and other common garden and farmland species by enhancing natural food sources and habitat.
In addition, we’ve installed wildlife trail cameras to monitor activity across the site. This will help us better understand how biodiversity develops over time and guide future improvements as we continue expanding our green areas.

RTÉ recently reported that more than 20 million v**es sold in Ireland last year were not properly recycled.🚫

Many people don’t know that used batteries and disposable v**es collected across Ireland end up at KMK Metals Recycling.🔋🪫🏭

As the operator of Ireland’s dedicated waste battery sorting and management facility, we ensure batteries and v**e devices are processed safely and responsibly. Recovering valuable materials and preventing hazardous waste from entering landfill.♻️

Lets take a moment and note that:
♻️ V**es are electronic waste
🔋 Lithium batteries can be recovered and reused
🔥 Incorrect disposal can cause dangerous fires in bins and recycling centres

Please never place batteries or v**es in general waste bins, recycle them responsibly.✅
