St. Augustine’s College, Dungarvan, Waterford

A transformative redevelopment project breathing new life into a former boarding school wing that had remained unused for over 20 years. Originally designed in the late 1960s around a central quadrangle, the project reimagined approximately 1,250sq.m of space into a vibrant modern learning environment for students and staff.

The redevelopment was completed over two phases and introduced a range of specialist teaching facilities including Music, Home Economics, Textiles, Art, Technical Graphics and Multi-Media rooms, alongside new general classrooms and upgraded student and staff facilities.

A new zinc-clad lift block with a glazed lift car was carefully integrated into the quadrangle to improve accessibility while preserving important visual connections through the heart of the school.

The project also revitalised the once closed-off central courtyard with new paving and walkways, restoring the quadrangle as a key social and gathering space for the school community once again.

Reviving a landmark with purpose

The former Ormonde Cinema Building in Ormonde Cinema Building — a protected structure dating back to the 1940s — has been transformed from a near-derelict site into the award-winning residential development, Ormonde Square.

Our design carefully retained the iconic cinema façade on O’Connell Street while introducing a contemporary mixed-unit housing scheme featuring:
• 15 new dwellings
• Accessible ground-floor apartments for independent living
• Family homes & elderly person dwellings
• A new urban square at the heart of the community

Finished with durable, high-quality materials including zinc standing seam roofs, acrylic render, glazed brick detailing, and thoughtfully designed pedestrian spaces, the project delivers both architectural heritage and sustainable living.

EPCA Principal Architect | Award-winning portfolio project

Michael Regan was RORSA’s Project Architect for the Maternity Hospital at CUH, leading the project from its inception in 1999 through to completion in 2007.

Spanning 21,000 sq.m across six levels, the building brought together three previously separate maternity services across Cork City and County into one unified, purpose-designed facility.

Designed around three gently curving wings, the hospital maximises south-facing views while enclosing a central landscaped garden. A glazed circulation spine connects the wings, creating clear movement routes and a strong visual identity throughout the building.

From the outset, the design philosophy challenged traditional hospital environments. Recognising that maternity services are experienced by predominantly well people, the architectural and interior approach focused on a warm, welcoming, “front-of-house hotel” aesthetic—supporting what is, for many, a joyful and life-changing experience.

The facility is carefully organised across levels to improve flow and efficiency, grouping services such as in-patient, out-patient, ante-natal, and post-natal care while maintaining appropriate separation between key areas like the Birthing Suite, Theatres, and Ward floors.

Key features include:
– 50-cot neonatal unit (largest in Ireland at opening)
– Three fully integrated operating theatres
– Direct links to UCC’s Anu Research & Teaching Centre
– High-quality exterior materials including limestone, stainless steel, and glazed curtain walling

The project received multiple national awards, including:

🌿 Designing with Nature – Not Against It 🌿

This bespoke residential project in Bagshot, Surrey, UK. shows how thoughtful architecture can work in harmony with the natural environment.

Set within a tree-filled site with protected landscaping, these four unique 3-bedroom homes were carefully designed around existing trees—preserving root systems, ground conditions, and the surrounding woodland character.

Each home offers:

🏡 Detached & semi-detached family homes
🌲 Private gardens integrated into the landscape
🚗 Discreet parking areas, sensitively screened
🌿 Raised decking to protect tree roots and planting

🍀 This St. Patrick’s Day we’re reflecting on sustainability in design.☘️

This passive-designed family home in Co. Waterford replaces a dilapidated cottage, demonstrating how thoughtful architecture can create comfortable, energy-efficient homes while respecting the rural landscape.

Registered with the Passive House Institute, the dwelling prioritises low energy use, high performance, and natural materials, including timber shiplap cladding. Large glazing maximises natural light and solar gain, helping reduce energy demand while connecting the home to its surrounding landscape.

A modern home designed with sustainability, longevity, and the future in mind.

Michael Regan, Principal Architect at EPCA, served as Director in Charge of this project while working at Reddy O’Riordan Staehli Architects (RORSA), leading the design development and delivery of the scheme from 1999 through planning, statutory approvals (including an oral hearing before An Bord Pleanála), and construction.Inability ethos throughout.

The Cliffs of Moher Visitor Centre is a landmark example of landscape-led public architecture in Ireland.

Michael Regan, Principal Architect at EPCA, acted as Director in Charge of this project while working at Reddy O’Riordan Staehli Architects (RORSA), leading the design development and delivery of the scheme from 1999 through planning, statutory approvals (including an An Bord Pleanála Oral Hearing), and construction.

Developed from an RIAI Architectural Competition–winning concept, the project was designed as a subterranean building, with its roof and walls absorbed into the surrounding topography to minimise visual impact on the iconic cliffs.

The internal architecture is defined by ramped circulation routes, contrasting ceiling heights, and a dramatic triple-height domed exhibition space at the centre of the plan. Exposed loadbearing concrete, textured to reference local Liscannor stone, is paired with natural materials and underpinned by a strong sustainability ethos throughout.

This award-winning project brings together four architectural elements — from the cedar-clad Drum to the Passive House office spaces — delivering 1,250 sq.m of innovative accommodation for live TV events and production.

Featuring solar panels, rainwater harvesting, PV arrays, and timber-frame Passive House principles, the TVM project proves that great design and sustainability go hand in hand.

A steep, private site with river views inspired a curved, stepped design that follows the sun and the landscape.
Three linked blocks flow down the slope—bedrooms above, a sculpted entrance at mid-level, and a light-filled kitchen/dining/living space below beneath a zinc-clad vaulted roof.
Tiered landscaping, mature boundaries, and a calm, private setting complete the home.
