خلف كل غرزة… أجيال من المهارة، الصبر، والفن ✨
مركز سلافة للتطريز، من الساحل الجنوبي لفلسطين، يُعدّ من أقدم المجموعات المنتِجة لدى سنبلة. من خلال شبكة من مراكز النساء الحرفيات، استطاعت سلافة أن تحافظ على فن التطريز الفلسطيني التقليدي لعقود طويلة، وفي الوقت نفسه توفّر فرص دخل للنساء وعائلاتهن.
تتميّز أعمالهن بحِرفة استثنائية، حيث تقوم النساء بالتطريز مباشرة على القماش نفسه دون استخدام قماش التطريز (embroidery canvas)، حتى على الأقمشة السوداء والداكنة التي تُعدّ من أصعب أنواع التطريز. ويحتاج هذا النوع من العمل إلى أمهر الحرفيات، حيث تُطرَّز كل تفصيلة بدقة ووضوح عاليين فوق الخلفيات الداكنة.
جمال هذه القطع لا يعكس فقط موهبة مميزة، بل أيضًا صمود وإصرار النساء اللواتي يواصلن الحفاظ على هذا التراث حيًّا، رغم كل التحديات، غرزة بعد غرزة.

Behind every stitch is generations of skill, patience, and artistry ✨
Sulafa Embroidery Centre, from the southern coast of Palestine, is one of Sunbula’s oldest producer groups. Through a network of women’s centers, Sulafa has preserved the traditional art of Palestinian embroidery for decades while creating income opportunities for women and their families.
Their work is especially known for its exceptional craftsmanship. The women embroider directly onto the fabric itself without the aid of embroidery canvas, even on black and dark-colored textiles that are more difficult to embroider on. It takes the most skilled embroiderers to stitch every detail with precision and clarity against dark backgrounds.
The beauty of these pieces reflects not only remarkable talent, but also the resilience and dedication of the women who continue to keep this heritage alive against all odds.

From the beautiful rolling hills between Hebron and Bethlehem lies the village of Surif, a place rich in history, resilience, and artistry.

For generations, the women of Surif have preserved the tradition of Palestinian embroidery through meticulous handwork and timeless designs from villages across Palestine. Using their signature cream-colored mansouri fabric and intricate thread-counting technique, every piece reflects heritage, precision, and care.

The women of Surif are considered among the most skilled embroiderers in Palestine for being able to embroider directly onto fabric without relying on embroidery canvas. They use a highly precise thread-counting technique that is passed down through generations
What began in the 1950s as a way for refugee women to support their families grew into the remarkable Surif Women’s Cooperative, women sustaining culture, community, and livelihood through embroidery. ❤️

من بين التلال الجميلة الممتدة بين الخليل وبيت لحم تقع قرية صوريف، قرية تحمل تاريخًا عريقًا وصمودًا وفنًا متوارثًا عبر الأجيال.

تحافظ نساء صوريف منذ عقود على فن التطريز الفلسطيني الأصيل من خلال العمل اليدوي الدقيق والتصاميم المستوحاة من تراث القرى الفلسطينية. وتتميّز تطريزات صوريف باستخدام قماش “المنصوري” الكريمي وتقنية العدّ بالخيوط التي تمنح القطع دقة وجمالًا استثنائيًا من الجهتين.

وتُعتبر نساء صوريف من أمهر المطرّزات في فلسطين، إذ يقمن بالتطريز مباشرة على القماش دون الاعتماد على قماش ’الإيتامين’، أو ’ماركة’ باستخدام تقنية دقيقة تعتمد على عدّ الخيوط ومهارة متوارثة عبر الأجيال.

بدأت الحكاية في الخمسينيات كمبادرة لدعم النساء اللاجئات ومساعدة العائلات، ثم أصبحت لاحقًا “تعاونية نساء صوريف”، نموذجًا للتمكين والحفاظ على التراث الفلسطيني. ❤️

حضانة للأطفال لثلاث فئات عمرية 👶
أنشطة ودعم لكبار السن 👵
ومطبخ يومي بيحضّر معجنات وأكلات طيبة تنباع لدعم النساء 🍞

هاي المساحة بتجمع بين الحرفة، الرعاية، والعمل المجتمعي… وبتفتح فرص حقيقية لنساء من قرى مختلفة حوالين بيت لحم.

From Sunbula’s visit to the Women’s Child Care Society in Beit Jala, a historic town in the Bethlehem area.
The Women’s Child Care Society is more than embroidery, it is a vibrant community hub.

Alongside preserving the unique Tahriri embroidery, their local craft tradition, the Society runs a range of community services:
a nursery for three age groups,
activities and support for senior citizens,
and a kitchen producing pastries and home-cooked meals that help generate income 🍞

It is a space where craft, care, and community come together to create real opportunities for women across nearby villages.

في زيارتنا لـ جمعية السيدات لرعاية الطفل، شفنا عن قرب التدريب اللي عم نقدّمه في سنبلة لإحياء فنّ التحريري ✨
هذا التطريز النادر، المختلف عن الفلاحي، كان مهدد بالاندثار لأن عدد اللي بيعرفوه قليل جدًا.
بسبب هالشي، عانت وحدة التطريز في الجمعية لفترة من نقص حاد في المُطرّزات. هون كان دورنا في سنبلة 💛
من خلال رعاية وتنظيم تدريبات متخصصة (تم عقد 3 منها منذ عام ٢٠٢٣)، عم نعرّف نساء أكثر على تقنيات التحريري من الأساسيات وحتى أكثر النقوش تعقيدًا، ضمن برنامج مكثف من 8 جلسات خلال شهر واحد.
اليوم، ومع هالجهود المشتركة، إنتاج التطريز في الجمعية عم يزدهر من جديد 🌿
والأهم، إنو كل مشاركة في التدريب صار عندها فرصة حقيقية لتوليد دخل واستقلال اقتصادي.
هاي مش بس ورشات تدريب، هاي استمرارية لتراث، وتمكين لنساء، وحكاية صمود بخيط وإبرة 🧵
During our visit to Women Child Care Society, we witnessed the impact of the training sessions Sunbula is leading to revive tahriri embroidery ✨
Unlike the more widely known cross-stitch (fallahi), tahriri is a rare and intricate technique that only a few artisans still master. This led to a serious shortage of skilled embroiderers within the Society’s production unit in past years.
Sunbula stepped in to sponsor and lead a series of trainings (3 courses held since 2023), introducing these techniques to more women. The program spans 8 sessions over one month, covering everything from the basics to the most complex motifs.
Today, thanks to this collaboration, the Society’s embroidery production is thriving once again 🌿
And most importantly, participating women now have real opportunities to generate income and build economic independence.
This is more than training, it is preserving heritage, empowering women, and stitching resilience into every piece 🧵

إطاراتنا مطرزة يدويًا على إيدين نساء من تقوع، تدربوا مع جمعية رعاية الطفل، من القلائل اللي لسا محافظين على هالحرفة اللي عم تختفي. كل قطعة فيها دقة، وقت، وقصة بتنحكى.

Tahriri is a very special kind of embroidery, a local specialty of Bethlehem where gold and silver cords are skillfully shaped into vivid designs ✨
These framed wall-hangings are hand embroidered by women artisans trained by the Women’s Child Care Society, one of the few groups preserving this disappearing craft. Each piece carries time, precision, and a story worth keeping.
