Not all projects envisioned and designed with much effort advance to a stage of construction. A few are terminated foreseeing disruptions during the course of the project on account of cliental professional ethics.
This project is one such example..!

Project T09-109

North view of the Earthen House

The kitchen and living room opens out into the back garden giving the family a large spill-out area where they will have a vegetable garden and fruiting trees along with the existing silver oaks lining the compound.
The placement of spaces on the northern side of the house is influenced by a Neem tree which exists at the site. The Kitchen and dining in the ground floor, balcony and family room in the first floor open up to the Neem tree court.
The prime material used for walls is exposed CSEB (Compressed stabilized earth blocks) with a combination of exposed table mould red brick walls as a contrast in the first floor which also gives us the liberty to plaster few areas on the interior.
Considering the Bangalore weather and large trees surrounding the site, the residence is designed with large openings to absorb the landscape without significant heat gain.

Jaali wall work in progress...

Why Jaali Curtain Wall?

There is no denying that summer is unpleasant in most parts of India and more so in Northern parts of Karnataka where this project is located. Many of us rely on air conditioners to maintain a cooler indoor temperature.
Jaalis are a green tool which can help you reduce the energy load of cooling and costs associated with it.
The apertures in the Jaalis efficiently lessen the ingress of heat in the daytime.
They block the entry of direct sunlight, making for pleasant interiors.
Jaalis are a boon for homes in hot-dry and hot- humid climatic regions.

Project T09-109

South East View of the Earthen House

The site being south-facing, will get ample amount of winter sun through large southern fenestrations. The Ground floor houses the entrance with the pooja room, guest bedroom while the first floor has an office, master bedroom and a meditation room on this part of the residence.
Tall trees on the opposite side of the site create a play of light and shadow on the southern façade of the house in turn providing a beautiful view of the canopies. Taking this and the ample space in front to our advantage, we have designed the meditation room cantilevering from the main structure with main supports of metal and wood adding warmth to the space. A combination of louvered and solid wood operable shutters offers the user privacy, ventilation, light and view.
A large balcony abutting the meditation room gives the master bedroom a breakout platform viewing the front garden with coconut trees and canopies
Exposed CSEB and red brick wall, mud plaster, random rubble masonry, exposed concrete, brick jali walls and Mangalore tiles makes up the array of materials with a touch of the colour Teal.

The East facade of the "Earthen House'' residential project

A south-facing home of 3230 Sft built-up area spread over a 50'0" x 80'0" plot in Sarjapur which is surrounded by tall tree canopies. The plan is designed with a smaller footprint to accommodate more open spaces around the house given the client's aspirations of having a large front and back garden reminiscing to their childhood memories of playing in open spaces with large trees.
We are working with wall materials like Mud blocks, Exposed red bricks, Clay jaali blocks, Rammed earth and Adobe walls. These, along with finishes of mud plaster, lime plaster bring a sense of warmth to the spaces and blend with the landscape of the site.
The design of the home is finalized and we are looking forward to the next step of ex*****on.
We will elaborate more on the plan and spaces in the posts to come.

Swipe left ◀️

We have come close to the completion of this residential interior design project which we took up close to a year before.
We were fortunate to have a client with similar design aesthetics.
Sharing a few images here showing executed design versus what was envisioned.
